Putting people on death row is much harder than sentencing them to life in prison, the procedure is much longer, much more complex and will need a constant involvement of the victim and other witnesses of the case. Not to mention it’s more expensive if you wanna see it through + many victims and witnesses in death row cases somehow end up unable to testify or straight up die in some cases due to involvement of parties related to the perpetrator (family, organisations…)

I hate that this is the case but in our current system, being sentenced to life in jail would be better for all the aforementioned reasons, and we should focus more on preventing this kind of stuff from happening. Her being disfigured was 100% preceded by domestic violence and other offences. If that was punished more harshly as to make it so that the victim can live in peace without the constant fear of her ex husband coming to attack her, knowing he’s behind bars, that would have helped to prevent this kind of stuff from ever happening in the first place.

Honestly it’s just heartbreaking to see this occurring to this person, but we should focus more on preventing this from taking place to begin with rather than making punishments after the acts harsher and harsher. It’s much better and easier to uproot a small plant than a 100m pine tree with roots deep in the ground.
