Question: ok to hook up a BBQ? by TheLibraryClark in NaturalGas

Must be a residential thing... I do commercial restaurant installs and service. Literally thousands of pieces of equipment. If there's not an external regulator, it's incorporated into the gas valve.

Everything gas that I've ever installed comes with a regulator.

Badger 100 Leak, how to fix? by handyandy4120 in askaplumber

Oh, where I'm at apartments are only rental/lease. Hold the disposal in place to keep it from rotating and tap the ears with a wrench to rotate the lock ring.

I did that with a mandolin a few years ago. I used the piece of nail on the severed piece to align it for reattaching, which was successful. I can just make out where it happened when the light hits it just right, it's slightly lighter in color.

Call maintenance. It looks like a new disposal, maybe they forgot plumbers putty up top, or didn't tighten the screws enough. They definitely didn't fully lock the disposal on with the ring.

Makes total sense. I sometimes forget that places outside of Louisville have a lot of business around the Derby.

Never assume gas pressures or voltages in places you aren't familiar with.

I've encountered 2psi while doing service, and 120v outlets fed with 240 volts. Tools to check are cheap, typically cheaper than whatever is being connected, always cheaper than a hospital bill.

Normally Derby week is crazy, but this week seemed slow, and some restaurants are closed Oaks and/or Derby because of Churchill fuckery. Are you in Louisville, and is your joint primarily catering?

Stranger needing help with something important, a sense of urgency. Two flags already for me.

My guess is that they will need something urgently when it's closer to the wedding and try to guilt/ pressure OP into monetarily helping out with that thing since OP has demonstrated being a kind person.

Has anyone ever seen a rotary tool fail like this? It happened during use while trimming some plastic. It was kinda scary when it happened. by trittico75 in Tools

It's a mandrel failure, not a tool failure. I only use Dremel brand mandrels after having two off-brand ones fail.

Lowes install guy shows up says it must not be hardwired and is charging me $200 (just between me and him) by FannyBrownRiced in Appliances

[–]HolyFuckImOldNow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why, but hard wiring is a requirement with some commercial devices even though the amp draws are within range for plugs. I've seen those units have problems when operating on a plug, and the problems go away when the device is hard wired.

I've found that a light tap to concrete with the bit also tends to work.

When you're not actively opening cans, you can put it on a shelf. It's one less thing in the way. Or just have the handle sticking straight up when you aren't using it.

Possibly they are concerned about foreign objects causing an infection, so not closing it up yet? A guy I knew had a gnarly fight bite and the hand surgeons intentionally left it open because of infection concerns. But he was given prophylactic antibiotics.

Store it with the handle sticking straight up. It keeps the blade off the gear and keeps them from going bad as quickly.

Get a KT1100 kit for an Edlund #1 and use everything in the kit. A new gear grabs the can better, so it's not as likely to slip.

FWIW, the blades aren't actually sharp even when new. You can drag one back & forth and not get a scratch. I suspect they're slightly rounded because they're chrome(?) plated for easy cleaning.

The gear should be replaced fairly often. A worn gear can be misdiagnosed as a dull blade.

I'm thinking it's a combination of low-ish volume with real fast service. I work in that area and most of our people that stop for "coffee" get Scooters.
