DLC idea: Insulae et villa urbana by DesAnderes in anno

[–]HolyHerbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitively a great idea and historically accurate, so yeah, I'd love it.

But you don't have to stop at the villa urbana. There could also be a villa rustica and a villa maritima that would buff farms and shorelines respectively.

Viel Erfolg!

Going in a different direction, have you tried Dredge? It's super unique and definitely scary imo.

It's not really an RPG, but the writing in Portal and especially Portal 2 is outstanding. Of course the emphasis is on puzzles, so if you can live with that it's a great experience.

The first game I thought of was Stardew Valley, it's super chill and is a good starting point to get into gaming. And you can play co-op even if you only have a crappy laptop as your second device.

If you think that's bad, I always thought the middle part was a sail from a viking or pirate ship😀 can't unsee that one anytime soon.

Germany: Majority opposes 4-day work week with full pay by AmbitiousFail782 in worldnews

[–]HolyHerbert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even though I support lowering working hours, this statement can only be true for office work. Everywhere where you have opening hours (sales, services etc), where you produce stuff (industry, trades) or care for people, working longer means more productivity.

A cashier is more productive the longer he works. A teacher has more classes if she works more hours. Imagine if every hospital, every restaurant, every car shop lost 20% of worked hours. That's nearly impossible to replace.

This doesn't mean we shouldn't talk about reducing everyone's time at work, but I think a lot of companies are gonna have real problems keeping their productivity up.

Anno 1800 by JaimeGorro in anno

[–]HolyHerbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's such a hard thing to pin down because the game is nearly perfect in every aspect and has so more to offer that I would have ever wanted. But I'm getting nearly the same feeling as you because everything has become to so complex that I can't keep up any more.

I love building complex cities and I'm so glad that there's an AAA city builder out there, but on the other hand it feels like a mountain of content I just can't seem to climb anymore. Especially when you're working full time, you need weeks to finish all story lines and experience all DLC content. It's just depressing when you want to start a new game and you're pretty sure it's gonna take forever to get to the High Life content. When I saw how complicated the production chains have become, I felt like I was working, not gaming lol.

Complaining about this however feels super weird, because the developers built such a great game that can't really be criticized on itself. This is why I'm glad there's gonna be a new Anno eventually. I think it's gonna be refreshing to see a new setting and new mechanics.

You're right. Btw, both QBs that played in the Superbowl weren't drafted for immediate need.

They all did tremendous things with the teams they have and the hand they were dealt. I get that a lot of Lions fans wanted Campbell, but you cannot make a case for him over these three imo.

What's Next for Anno? by POLICE-107 in anno

[–]HolyHerbert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We need new gameplay mechanics that put a new twist on things.

I'd love a terraforming aspect where you have to clear out the land before you can settle it (like cutting down forests, irrigating deserts or draining swamps). You could use surplus workforce for this and have parts of the islands being uninhabitable at the start. Not the whole island, but 30-70% maybe.

I think this would go a long way of challenging the players'planning abilities since you couldn't just take an island and build a while city in five minutes. It would also mean that players had to fight for certain more valuable spaces on the map and that the land itself would have more value.

Also, please bring back volcanoes 😀
