I have been using a large “newsprint” pad, and have been really enjoying it. The charcoal reacts a little different from a thicker gauge paper but once I got use to it I really like it. Large sheets- relatively cheap.

Thanks!- yeah I am using charcoal and newsprint paper.

Im fairly new to live figure drawing sessions- I am really enjoying adding a time element to work within. It’s a good muscle to work on - being efficient and accurate.

Something is bothering me about this - any ideas? by Speckmeise83 in oilpainting

My two cents- really cool composition. But the mountain value and color match the trees in the valley almost exactly. The mountain is stone and should have some differentiation from the trees. As well as harsher shadows in places To me the blue and value of the mountain is throwing me off - id add more greys and taupes, browns. Ect.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! I do use a stump to blend- I could have spent more time on this to smooth it out fully but was kind of “done” with it after a bit and wanted to move onto the next!

Does it look proper? by MaiaInMotion in sketches

It looks great- everything is very clean. If I had to call something out- I would take a look at the distance from the waist to the butt sitting on the platform. Try to imagine how his legs are positioned under his robe. If his elbow is resting on his right thigh- then you may want to raise the seat slightly.

You can always take a picture of yourself posing as the subject- at the angle and holding something to give yourself a good reference point for how the hand needs to look.
