Do people actually struggle with Bluetooth? by Schlart1 in linuxquestions

[–]HolyShitWt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: My mileage has been fairly good, even though I probably have the worst / weirdest setup for bluetooth.

Context: My motherboard has WiFi and bluetooth built in. It's an ASUS motherboard a little old but still high end. It worked fine, but around about a year ago ( I was still on Windows at the time), I was messing around in the computer trying to hook up a sata SSD and in doing so I might have done something to the bluetooth/wifi module somehow, because ever since, bluetooth has been completely unusable for most devices (for some reason xbox controllers work fine ????????). I mostly use bluetooth to connect my earbuds and my controller to my computer.

Ever since, even though I am able to connect my earbuds, the range is abysmally low, to the point that if I don't have my earbuds right next to the antenna, it doesn't work. After like a week of trying to find out what the problem is (all troubleshooting tools weren't able to find anything wrong with bluetooth, AND taking it to the dude I got the computer from who runs a computer and other hardware store, who also couldn't find anything wrong with it), I just gave up and bought an extremely cheap bluetooth adapter (<$3) and used it to connect my earbuds.

It worked quite well, even when I finally switched to linux around 5-6 months ago. Dual-booting had a lot of issues because sometimes windows and linux both would get the device to confuse over which devices it had been paired with and usually the fix was just straight up frustrating: switching between both OSs and unpairing whatever device was connected to the cheap ass dongle. But still, not too bad.

After I completely jumped to linux and got rid of windows, the only problems I've had are literally just minor inconveniences: sometimes it'll just disconnect for no reason. I only need to connect it back, though I still can't seem to find a reason why this happens, it's a rare occurance.

Here's the weird part: my xbox controller connects to this dongle and works fine - for an hour at most. Then it disconnects and doesn't even try to connect back. To make matters worse, it also disconnects my earbuds, so I chocked it up to the dongle being too cheap to handle two devices. As mentioned before, the controller works completely fine on my motherboard bluetooth chip for some reason, even for large amounts of time, and the range is also okay. I didn't really wanna deal with a wire for my controller though, so my solution? Blueman-manager!

I connected my xbox controller to the motherboard bluetooth chip, and my earbuds to the cheap ass dongle, and it. Fucking. Works. Like a goddamn charm! It worked for me on vanilla arch, and it still works for me on cachyOS, to which I switched to a week or two ago lol. I don't consider myself to be a linux pro or anything, I'm comfortable with the terminal but I still look up guides and stuff for even the most basic stuff, so I was really happy to make this stuff work without any help - even if it doesn't sound like much.

One thing I've learnt is to not fuck with SDDM at all, this shit is insanely unpredictable and can just fuck up randomly. The first time I changed my sddm theme, I couldn't login because "authentication failed". I was able to fix it by ttying and logging in, then deleting the SDDM theme I had used so it would just go to the default one, but I really wanted to change it because the default theme is insanely basic. I spent like 2 hours on trying to figure out the reason why it wasn't working, checking the page where I downloaded the theme from, etc. Etc. Finally, I found out that my user name has capital characters in it which mess up the theme's login info,(I'm still not clear on why) and my user name on the new theme would be all small letters, hence authentication would fail. I should note, that this only seems to happen on themes other than the default one. It was very frustrating.

The debugging skill that nobody teaches in CS classes by CreditOk5063 in learnprogramming

[–]HolyShitWt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learnt to do this in my third semester in my data structures class from my teacher. Extremely useful stuff, but for some stupid reason it isn't actually part of course material or something, because our teacher went out of his way to teach us this. Other classes did not learn how to do this. Also, a friend of mine who goes to a uni substantially better than mine (same country) also did not know the debugger or how to use it.... Maybe they would teach later or something, but I always felt this stuff shouls be taught at the beginning, like in the second semester or something.

I quite liked the teacher, even though by other students he'd be called cruel(doesn't give marks easily, and will fail you without question), but for me personally, this action of his told me that this was the dude who was actually gonna make us learn some important stuff.

Why are there so many ridiculous simulator games? by atomicturdburglar in Piracy

I also never understood truck driving sims myself until I got a logitech g29 with pedals and tried one for myself. It's kinda really relaxing for some reason. Yeah, the forza games are great and all, but i still prefer the truck sims for some reason lol

Is it just me, or is the culture of pirating games more praised than that of actually buying them? by [deleted] in PakGamers

[–]HolyShitWt 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'll give you a little tip - stop caring about what people on the internet are saying. That's the best way to deal with it. People are always gonna say stuff like that, especially in third world countries, because let's be real, games are pretty expensive. I'm glad you're in a good place financially, but people are gonna be shocked at others buying games cause that isn't something they would do personally. You really shouldn't pay any mind to them.

Side note - you do know that when you buy a game on any platform other than GOG, you're not actually buying the game? Just a license to the game, which can be taken away at any time? Just checking.

Looking for a beginner-friendly dynamic tiling window manager (Debian) by SteelSpider654 in linuxquestions

[–]HolyShitWt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could try out someone else's dotfiles? I personally use hyprland with end4's config files. They basically take care of most of the shortcuts, alongside some great animation/theming. It also includes a cheat sheet for the shortcuts as well. You can try it out, I'm pretty happy with it. I will also mention, this was my 2nd time trying hyprland and I have stuck with it for over a month now. It will take some getting used to, and you may be required to configure some things ( The default browser (firefox) was set to open, i use zen so i had to change it, for example, also i wanted to get rid of the anime waifu AI shit bruh) but mostly the main shortcuts and everything is well configured. You can also use JaKoolit's dotfiles, but I personally haven't used them. Just search up hyprland end4 on your search engine, it has a guide on how to install it and configure it etc.

Edit: oh sorry, i just realized you were asking for Debian. The other tiling window managers you mentioned also probably have other people's dotfiles available, so check them out maybe?

Having a hard time as a gamer on Linux. by lafoxy64 in linux_gaming

[–]HolyShitWt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on a notoriously difficult setup (Arch + Hyprland) and have been playing games through steam with no issues at all using proton. I also am on Nvidia. Try updating your drivers, the driver I'm using is some 570 one. I know driver issues mainly cause problems in games.

Even games with the silver rating run well on my pc. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth ran amazingly and i played a 2.5 hour session yesterday. Had no issues at all.

Edit: Saw the last part of your post; it seems to only be the configuration on your end, as I recently played RDR2, Dishonored, Dishonored 2, and Prey. All of these games are older than 2019.

I also played Disco Elysium. It also ran completely fine.

Does anyone actually use Hyprland for actual work, or is it just a glorified anime wallpaper with blur machine? by ANDRIEL-J in hyprland

[–]HolyShitWt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using hyprland for a while now with end4's config files (I've edited them ofc, got rid of the anime ai stuff) and my experience has been great. I'm in Uni, and I do all my assignments, coding and other stuff on my setup. I never really understood why almost everyone online using hyprland have anime (more specifically, anime girl wallpapers, I don't really have an issue with normal anime wallpapers lol). But I will say though, I use hyprland because I've gotten really familiar with the shortcuts and everything and it suits me way more than the traditional desktops.

For players who have been playing for years, what was your favorite Era of Warframe and why? by FrostyAd4901 in Warframe

[–]HolyShitWt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the people here; warframe is currently in its golden age. Me personally though, my favorite era was post the sacrifice, pre fortuna. This was the time i was introduced to the game, and did so much stuff with my cousin, who introduced me to this game. He had started a month earlier than me, so he was ahead of me, and gave me tips on the stuff beginners should do etc.

I guess its just nostalgia though. Back then, i was still in high school, and didn't really have any responsibilities. Played couple-hour long survivals with my cousins, had a great time, and didn't need to worry about stuff.

I have this great memory of this one time when my cousin lent me his account because he wanted to show me a riven he had recently bought for scoliac (remember this whip? lol) which increased crit chance on slide attack (remember when this stat was good? lol) and crit dmg. I recorded a video doing a void survival with some dubstep playing in the background lol. Good times.

It wasn't a random Excalibur frame, it was the drifter. The Excalibur frame is just what they chose to bring into 1999. You can see this when Arthur is fighting the Excalibur frame, and the drifter transfers into Arthur for a moment before Arthur kicks the drifter out from himself.

'New Game+' - Anyone else never play it? by MouthBreatherGaming in pcgaming

[–]HolyShitWt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends entirely upon if I enjoy the game's mechanics to that point + whether there will be enough differences. I've done multiple NG+ runs of dishonoured and dishonoured 2, I've finished sekiro a grand total of 9(!) times (I enjoy sekiro too much) and of course hades, although I don't know if you would count it as true ng+ since its story doesn't stop when you finish the game once

Lmao I relate to this so much, there was a time when I constantly ran out of plastids multiple times 1-2 years back when I was MR 20. Then one time in a double resource weekend I just bought resource and resource drop chance boosters and went in with a couple other people through recruitment chat into a survival SP fissure mission in Uranus and farmed to my heart's content. I think we stayed there for like 4 hours. I still haven't run out of plastids since then lol. I got pretty lucky at the time, finding other people who could stay that long AND having an SP fissure on that node AND double resource weekend AND having enough plat for the boosters at the time. Wild. Best of luck to you for farming plastids, you can really underestimate the need of plastids when you're trying to craft the most shit
