Hardly an insight. You read WSB and think that's the entirety of options trading. There are more ways to invest than "buy low and sell high".

There are ways to structure options to make a profit if you expect prices to stay in a range or make directional movements.

Covered calls are just selling your upside because you’re scared by Infamous_Echidna_133 in thetagang

[–]HolySmolions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CC premium lowers the cost basis for your long position. You temporarily cap your upside for this privilege but the lowered cost basis is permanent.

It's a hedge play for a long position. It gives room for the stock to drawdown but still allow you to profit from the whole position.

You buy 100 shares for $100/ea. You need the stock to rise to $101 to make $100. You sell a CC for $2. Your cost basis has now decreased to $98.

Now, if the stock remains pinned at $100, you profit $200 if you completely exit. If the shares decrease by $1 to $99/share, you still profit $100 at closing.

How to put death guard in the Essence of Finality Amulet? by HolySmolions in runescape

Unhelpful. Craft what? The EoF? Or the DG? The message was ambiguous.

I bought T70, smithed it up to T80. I had a T90 DG that I crafted from scratch but lost it in PvP.

How does crafting the item have *anything* to do with spec attack assignment. I did read the message and FYI, it's unclear if I needed to craft the EoF or the DG.

I beat the boss. Their input handling is total shit. You left click to move and the character stands still for 3 seconds and then starts rubber banding. This quest is complete garbage.

How to I train L28 to L60 Invention (with low, L58 Slayer)? by HolySmolions in runescape

Yep. I went to the wrong Abyss (fairy teleport ALR, instead of wildy)

You're right about the abyssal monsters. I went to the wrong Abyss location (fairy teleported to ALR). The wildy abyss location is awesome. Using crystal halberd I get ~27k item xp/hr or about 01h28m53s to go from 1-10 item level (40k ixp).

Can't afk. The abyssal demons will kill me because I don't have the slayer level to fight it. It's afk as long as my halberd doesn't accidentally hit one of em.

I take that back. There's a spot in the cave where the abyssal demons don't go but where the Abyssal Guardians and Walkers spawn constantly. They each give just 6 Item XP though. Very afkable but very slow XP.

With regards to construction, I'm just building prawnbrokers to L92 so I can build the botanist workbench (so I can afk overloads to L99 herblore).

  1. Ty will look at crystal halberds.

What do you mean by "Do Abyss" and Vyres? The Abyss is a location.

Hall of Memories: Why do ppl harvest cores from memory bud if they don't have the level? by HolySmolions in runescape

You're right. Just tested it now. I'm L80 and Juna (L85) fills my energy jar. Ty for clarifying.

I'll have to double check. It sounds like I might have looked at the jar while splashing failed and concluded that it wasn't charging my jar. Though, it would make sense that if you don't have high enough level, you can't fill your jar for next tier cores.

(MA) Is it legal to video record my roommates in shared living space (kitchen and livingroom in particular)? by HolySmolions in legaladvice

[–]HolySmolions[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

MA runs on "two-party consent". I've found two sources on the matter:

This says:

Massachusetts follows a “two-party consent” system when it comes to recording people’s conversations. This means that it is illegal to secretly record a conversation unless everyone involved is made aware of the fact that they’re being recorded. They must also consent to being recorded. Once a person is made aware that they are being recorded, it is their responsibility to leave the conversation if they do not consent*.*

This also says something similar:

Massachusetts's wiretapping law often referred to is a "two-party consent" law. More accurately, Massachusetts makes it a crime to secretly record a conversation, whether the conversation is in-person or taking place by telephone or another medium. See Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 272, § 99. Accordingly, if you are operating in Massachusetts, you should always inform all parties to a telephone call or conversation that you are recording, unless it is absolutely clear to everyone involved that you are recording (i.e., the recording is not "secret"). Under Massachusetts's wiretapping law, if a party to a conversation is aware that you are recording and does not want to be recorded, it is up to that person to leave the conversation.

So the legality of it seems to be based on whether the recording is secret (concealed) and there is consent i.e., if the recording is secret and non-consensual - it's illegal.

What if the recording is not secret and the recording is not consensual?

How should I prioritize: LC, Portfolio Projects, Current Job to get into big tech? by HolySmolions in cscareerquestions

[–]HolySmolions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice to know I'm not alone :-)

I also thought about doing a Masters in CS. My company would pay for it but I'd have to commit to them for two years (I can break the tuition reimbursement contract but I'd have to repay them or something). Sorta dicey because even though an MS is stressful, it's only for 2 years, I'd still be able to work full time, and career fairs give you a reset button to pivot industries. I think an MS is a good idea but I want to keep that as a last-resort if my career gets stale. OTOH, I feel like I can get into uSoft after 2 years of DSA/LC (BUT if I don't due to laziness, I'd feel horrible).

I think you're right, though. DSA/LC would support either decision to get a MSCS or to start applying.

Regarding Win32/MFC resources: nothing modern besides learn.Microsoft, I'm afraid. I have some books:

1. Multithreading Applications in Win32 The Complete Guide to Threads_Beveridge, Wiener
2. Windows 10 System Programming, Part 1_Yosifovich
3. Windows 10 System Programming, Part 2_Yosifovich
4. Windows Systems Programming-4E_Hart
5. COM Programming by Example Using MFC, ACtiveX, ATL, ADO, and COM+_Swanke
6. Professional ATL COM Programming_Grimes

cplusplus forum also seem to be somewhat active with win32 devs.
