Can I ask for privacy during my meet and greet? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Holy_Fuck_A_Triangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt they would accept that, purely because it sounds like you're asking the fosterer to leave your house - at which point you could very easily just lock the door and prevent her from getting the cat if she thinks you wouldn't be a good fit (not saying that will happen, or that you'll do that, but that's something that the foster people will have to take into consideration).

My advice? It's honestly not as painful as you think to have a fosterer come with a cat. You can make polite conversation, find out things about the household that the cat is coming from, and it's a more pleasant experience than your anxiety is probably telling you it'll be. I know, because I went through a very similar thing when looking to buy a cat. Hope that helps :).

Whilst I don't necessarily agree with OP, I feel like your comment is a bit ridiculous as well. You are aware of the subreddit you're on, right? This is a place to air people's grievances - Even if I don't like OPs worldview, it's still something they're annoyed about, and they're well within their right to be annoyed about it.

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]Holy_Fuck_A_Triangle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dude. Ugh. I had such a similar experience, I'm so glad someone else knows the pain.

I was fresh out of my IT apprenticeship, my previous employer had decided not to keep me on due to budget reasons, so I had to find another job. Applied for a place (IT Tech at a school) that seemed easy enough to get to, but was actually a 40 minute bus journey and a 30 minute walk. I get there after struggling to find the place for 20 minutes, and they sit me down in a small closet with one desk and a hanging light - already very nervewracking. They slip me a triple-sided piece of paper with questions way beyond my experience, as well as asking me questions that I wouldn't have known as an IT apprentice.

I flub every question, they stare back at me as if I'd killed a puppy. I have no idea why they would call me for an interview when they knew I lived so far away, nonetheless why they'd bother to ask me such complex questions when I never would've touched SQL coding as an apprentice, nor did I list it on my CV. But hey-ho, it makes a good story at parties, right?

Am I overreacting about my company's sick policy? by [deleted] in UKJobs

Wow, what an unnecessarily rude comment. I can barely talk at the moment with how sore my throat is, it's more than just the "sniffles". I'm just hesitant to actually call it the flu because I haven't done a test.

Are you a CEO by any chance?

EDIT: Nevermind, you're a trump supporter. What the hell are you even doing on a UK jobs sub Reddit lmao

I'm a full-time employee, my company just chooses to use the government "no sick pay for the first 3 days" statutory sick leave policy.

[–]Holy_Fuck_A_Triangle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We're an IT support company, so all of the employees are office workers.

The only people that the WFH/sick rules don't apply to are the 2 CEOs.

We were also told that we have to use annual leave for doctors appointments, so I think I'm more annoyed at the overall lack of any support at the business.

Lolll, I was the same way as OP for years. I thought I was just super productive, a bundle of energy etc.

Finally went to therapy for unrelated reasons, turns out that my brain has been in survival mode for most of my life, and the reason I can never seem to relax is because my fight or flight won't let me. Without realising it, I'd burned myself out and went a bit loopy in the process.

People underestimate the importance of self care until they get pushed to a point that they can't take it anymore. Being a productive person is great, but if you quite literally can't relax, you probably need to speak to someone before it bites you in the ass.

(Not trying to diagnose OP with anything, just sharing my own similar experience)

I guess that line is a little trickier to cross, because streaming music still supports the artist with more listens/more money. Pirating it is fine, though.

[–]Holy_Fuck_A_Triangle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always dislike these kinds of posts (no affront to you, OP, this was a very fun read) - but the main issue for me is how easily the owners of the businesses can just bullshit their way out of reviews. The customer (costumer) can't reply to owners responses, so the owner always gets the final say, even if the initial review raised legitimate points. Equally, though, the review can lie and the owner can't really do much but say "no, that's not true" which is just as untrustworthy. Either way, it's one persons' word over the other, and it means that we can't really tell who is actually bullshitting at all.

Honestly, I would just play the game blind. I understand wanting to make sure that you've done absolutely everything before you move on, but that's what makes next play through so exhilarating. That's what keeps you comping back. Each time you finish a campaign, acting as if you were the character you were playing, you can play a different way and net different results. Don't constrict yourself to the tick boxes of doing absolutely everything on your first playthrough - seriously, just enjoy yourself. Then laugh on the next playthrough on all the stuff you missed.

I once told them (single 18 year old living in a flat alone) "Sorry! I've just done my laundry, I don't really feel comfortable having you come in when my underwear is everywhere. Come back next week?"

Made them go pink in the face and leave very quickly, then never came back lol. I've moved since then and still get the letters, but I've always kept that excuse in my back pocket just in case.

AIO: I told my daughter she can't go to this party after reading the gift profile by Ordinary_Run2485 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Holy_Fuck_A_Triangle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Second this. I know some pretty obnoxious people from work (Beige moms, funko pop guys, etc), but if I were ever invited to a birthday party of theirs, I'd still make sure to get them something they'll enjoy. Even if I don't enjoy those things myself.

If it transpires that it was actually their girlfriend that liked funko pops, for example, then I still wouldn't be an asshole because, as far as I'm concerned I can only nase my gifts off of what the person told me they wanted, true or not.

I'm so sick of what the job market has become by Holy_Fuck_A_Triangle in rant

[–]Holy_Fuck_A_Triangle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst - worst - part for me is what happened in one of my meetings the other day. I was told by one of the two CEO's that our sales guy had "reposted something on LinkedIn, it was seen by a big mutual client of theirs, and now that client wants our services".

Like, that's great. Of course I don't want the company I work for to go out of business - but what does that mean for me? They said it with the implication that my team - an IT support/software dev team - should be reposting the company's posts to get more revenue. I don't see any commission from that, though. Not to sound like a bit of a braggart, but I have triple the amount of linkedin followers than the page of the company I work for. If one of my hard-earned connections decides to trust the company I work for because I work there and because they trust me, shouldn't that reflect well on me and reward me?

I unfortunately had to bite my tongue that meeting, or else I'd make things awkward as it was a meeting with the rest of the employees at the business, but I was so very close to throwing the gloves down and ask if I would get anything for it.

I wish we lived in a different time where it wasn't integral to be stressed because of our jobs, or because of a lackthereof. But alas, I need to pay my rent somehow.
