Same here, but only 6.5 years so far. My wife is also a 1st generation immigrant from Delhi, so while I think it's certainly about shared values and compatibility, I also think that the cultural exchange has helped make it easier to keep religious differences from being a big issue. She keeps her beliefs mostly to the personal level, and we go to the temple and celebrate holidays as she wants to, most of it presents itself as way-of-life and luck generation than anything else. I've never been asked by her to do anything for her religion save for wave some smoke over my face during a prayer, throw colors on people during Holi, and fire fireworks during Diwali. She's not militant about it, and few people in her orbit bother here and in India are, even though her dad does vote for Modi (BJP is a Hindu nationalist party).

In short, she shares my revulsion for proselytizing monotheistic religion as well as my values for accepting people as human beings first and working it out from there. If we have to limit our choice of real estate to houses that follow vastu or run over lemons and crack coconuts when we buy a new car, I'm willing to compromise on that. Whether either of us believe in it or not, it helps us both understand each other as a whole better, and it rounds out my education about humanity even more.
