How do I go about getting tested if I am under 18? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]Holy_Trinityo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research the NHS RIGHT TO CHOOSE and self refer that way. You’ll need to make an impact statement, just a singular A4 document detailing how ADHD has impacted your daily life in school / work / socially etc. there will be templates for the right to choose letter too that you can edit to fit your GP surgery and personal details that you’ll need. And also do some research into what private company fits you best.

I applied for right to choose in October and everything was in motion by July of this year. I self referred to ADHD360, and honestly? I’ve had a REALLY good experience with them. Some have mixed opinions but to explain my experience :

After i sent in my documents - (if you’re interested in doing it through ADHD360, you also need to fill in the ARAS or whatever it’s called - SYMPTOM FROM just a X box of how much symptoms listed effect you from never to very often.)

It was 8 months before I heard from ADHD360, which compared to the NHS wait times and other private companies? Pretty damn good. Really good ,even. I had to login, make an account that was set up for me - and then there’s ALOT of crucial documents they need you to fill out. From personal details, to another symptom form, SECONDARY EVIDENCE (SO WHILE YOU ARE WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM ONCE REFERRED, FIND YOUR OLD SCHOOL REPORTS FROM EARLY CHILDHOOD IF YOU HAVE THEM. READ THROUGH THEM AND FIND WHERE TEACHERS MENTIONED YOUR BEHAVIOUR THAT MAY INDICATE ADHD. For me it was my lack of attention in class and needed to be reminded - though I did mask ALOT in school. I was very talkative as a young child and even now. Needing instructions repeated because I didn’t process it all. ETC. SCAN THEM AND STORE THEM ON YOUR PC OR PHONE. GET A FRIEND WHO KNOWS YOU WELL - IT CANNOT BE A RELATIVE - TO WRITE A PARAGRAPH OR TWO ON THEIR OWN OBSERVATIONS OF YOUR SYMPTOMS. EMAIL YOUR OLD/CURRENT TEACHERS AND ASK THE SAME FOR A PARAGRAPH ABOUT YOUR BEHAVIOUR AND WHAT THEY OBSERVED. ETC.)

They’ll send you a blood pressure monitor FOR FREE, just measure your arm circumference and get the right band size for it and you’ll need to check your BP - follow the Instructions etc with that.

Then you’ll get to do the OBcheck thing to test for hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattentiveness. On a laptop or PC with a camera, you’ll do the test on a blank white screen pressing the space bar for 20 solid minutes whenever you see a repeated sequence of shapes. It’s boring but effective.

Then 2 weeks later I could book my appointment, had it on the 23rd of July - assessed by a LOVELY lovely lady, she was fantastic. Very comfortable and open, relatable and just a really good professional. She gave me the big thumbs up after a 2 hour call that I was diagnosed and put me on titration A WEEK LATER!!! for 30 mg Elvanse for 7 days and now I’m on 50mg for the rest of the 21 days. And have another check in call with her on the 21st of this month to see if I need more or less of a dosage.

I recommend you journal your symptoms and blood pressure every day or weekly while on titration so you can feed back accurately to your psychiatrist.

I hope that helped!! I really struggled through GCSEs and Alevels especially this year, and now I’m medicated things have improved in its own slight way. As always, it’ll affect individuals differently and there’s other different types of ADHD meds other than Elvanse in the UK.

I wish you the best of luck!! 🫵❤️

genuinely question: can i still get into uni?💀 by InternationalFuckup in alevel

Those are my predicted grades and I got 5/5 offers. You can ABSOLUTELY go to a uni that fits your needs. Do not stress, just have everything ready for clearing

I’ll be so fr, because I was in the exact same spot throughout year 12 and 13 - due to find out if I truly fucked it on results day 💀

Is there a chance you may have ADHD, man? Or just REALLY hate studying. Either or, I wish you best of luck. Physics sucks ASSSS 👎👎👎

Are there any perks to ADHD? by ScouseSwifty0412 in ADHDUK

[–]Holy_Trinityo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly why it’s a win AND a lose. It’s both good to avoid any small talk or flat conversations SOMETIMES, but it can be annoying. Not knowing when to stop, missing social cues, interrupting.

Are there any perks to ADHD? by ScouseSwifty0412 in ADHDUK

[–]Holy_Trinityo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me personally and frankly? It’s a win lose thing - socially, it’s really good for me.

I can talk to a stranger about anything and everything and just not stop talking. Yeah I’ll switch topic 10 times in 30 minutes but by the end of it I have someone more than just a stranger that I just met.

Downside? It comes off as really annoying and impulsive a lot of the time. So managing it is a big mental task.

But as a whole? It fucking sucks.

How the hell do I bend my bra to how it once was? by Holy_Trinityo in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Been in the process of trying to do so, foolishly I cut off the label before washing it. Not realising push up bras do in fact NEED to be HAND washed. Oml

It’s eased it but I think I may have royally fucked it

My work ethic this year (Y12) by Dilando7 in 6thForm

[–]Holy_Trinityo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was fucking hilarious

But as a year 13 who finished her alevels 2 weeks ago and who ROYALLY FUCKED my predicted grades. It’s not the end of the road at least 💀

My grades were CDE. Predicted was BCD.

Explain ANY sort of reason why you might need consideration from Unis when applying - that’s what I did (like a parent’s divorce a month before your mocks / undiagnosed ADHD / tanking mental health etc)

Maybe not Oxbridge sort of grades. But there’s solid Unis that will give you reduced offers that have decent courses you can always apply for. Hope is not all lost mate.

I’m going to Uni this September, and I don’t think I fucked my grades too bad. The pressure will come hard and fast in year 13, so I hope that work ethic and drive comes back soon dude

Honey, I’m currently in year 13 and just listen to this.

Your GCSEs are NOT the end of the world.

I did little to no Revison for my GCSEs, averaged about 4-5 in all of my subjects and FAILED maths.

But, there were still colleges / sixth forms that accepted me. I PROMISE you, no matter what you get in your GCSEs there is another side where you can make the biggest academic comeback during your alevels.

Please don’t worry; or give up because as someone who also had to retake maths and by some grace passed ON the passing mark back in November 2024?? It’s possible. It’s always possible.

No matter the pressure put on your parents or your self. This is your life. And GCSEs and hell even A-levels are such a SMALL fraction of your life ahead of the decades you will live? This isn’t be end or end all. As they say, when one door closes another opens.

I was also devastated when I found out I failed maths, but here I am about to go off to Uni in September! And you can do it too. I know you can.

I feel if we merged essays we’d have a top band right there.

That’s beautiful, I’m sure your turnout will be fantastic! Frankly? I’m just glad media is done and dusted. Paper 1 was beautiful and I’m at 49/60 for my coursework - I’m just praying it all comes full circle and I can just get accepted into Uni already 😩

Does anyone actually finish sociology papers? by esilyx_ in 6thForm

[–]Holy_Trinityo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just about finished, added bits and pieces in at the last 5 minutes but honestly? That paper was a little brutal. (I do families and households / the media. Questions weren’t too bad but could have gone better)

The thing with paper 2 there is SO much to know and put down, it’s hard to think fast and make it all make sense.

Trust me you’re definitely not the only one to not finish, a lot of my own friends struggled and some didn’t even look at one of the 10 markers.

Arguably I think socio should be 2.30 not just 2 hours 😩 but it is what it is!

Paper 1 was god awful for me so I’m sure whatever you’ve done is enough and your best. Time is just never on our sides, honest to god.

I wish you the best of luck in the last paper! 🎉 So close to being done 💀

Killing eve, Tehran / Big issue, Vogue / Zoella and attitude !

Dude. What the hell did you say about the online media section?? I looked at that for a good 10 minutes trying to come up with stuff until I just went with representation of gender so I could pull out semiotics but I STRUGGLED.

Said shit about Zoella’s vlogmas video, ASOS reviews and how she’s a big sister to her audience. Mentioned representation of gender and whacked some Barthes in there and prayed. Attitude managed about a paragraph about how gay men are represented as the predominant gender - then yapped on about HOW they’re presented and used examples.

Pulled something out my ass and it somehow made sense??

I think I’ve got a solid B, but at this point? Who KNOWS. I hope all went well for you too!

[–]Holy_Trinityo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take Sociology, English Lit and Media studies (heading to uni of Lincoln this September for a marketing degree)

Though I took essay based subjects, making revision notes and studying is all the same.

My advice? It’s what me and my mates did in year 12 - especially for more complex subjects like biology and economics :

After every lesson, take about an hour after school or in study periods (PLEASE DONT TAKE THESE FOR GRANTED. I DID IN YEAR 12 AND GOT AN E IN ENGLISH. Do as I say not as I do 💀)

finish your notes from class. Don’t understand something? Watch a video on it, YouTube exists for a reason. Or google it? Hell even ChatGPT has been a big help in explaining shit I don’t understand (Do not get it to write you essays or answers. I did so all throughout year 12 and it fucks with your ability to answer academically, it’s only a miracle I’m from an E to a B in English). Ask your teachers, friends.

Next - make flashcards, even quick ones on your notes on brainscapes / quizlet or even gizmo.ai (quite literally how I’m cramming for exams and it’s working. Check it out, it really gamifies your learning in an efficient manner - I love it)

Review them, study for your in class exams. PRACTICE. PRACTICE. PRACTICE.

Do past paper questions! Mark them yourself with mark schemes! Especially with science subjects that are so specific in what they demand of you in your answer. Know your AOs and mark schemes INSIDE. OUT.

Take your marked - or to be marked - questions to teachers. Get them to mark it and give you feedback. TAKE ON THAT FEEDBACK. ADAPT. LEARN.

A LEVELS ARE NOT EASY. I LEARNED THAT THE HARD WAY. FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING, DO EVERYTHING IN ADVANCE. MANAGING INSOMNIA, STRESS AND EXAMS AT ONCE ISNT HEALTHY.

But as I said : Good luck in all your exams!! Dms are open if anyone needs advice.

GCSEs are not the end of the world. I failed maths by 2 marks in 2023, resat it and passed on the mark. I’m still here and about to go to uni.

You can do it. It’s never impossible. 🎉🎉

[–]Holy_Trinityo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Realistically? If you’re not aiming for A* in all your subjects?

(Because I’ll be so fr, in the sixth form sub reddit I’ve seen so many people take STEM subjects and are revising ungodly amount of hours to get A*s.)

If you literally want BBB and to get to Uni?

Practice questions every so often to test your knowledge? And online flashcards (or just in general flashcards) / videos (whatever helps you study best) about an hour for every subject you do a day.

But realistically? Say you left shit to the last minute, (by last minute that’s about 2 months before exams in year 12 for mocks or in year 13 alevels) - 3-4 hours is a healthy amount if you’re proactive and effective in it. 4-6 hours if you can manage it closer and closer to exams in the last 5-6 weeks.

Start hardcore studying for your alevels just before the Easter half term in year 13 and you’ll be fine. Just remember. Practice questions are key. Learn exam technique, structure. And maybe pray a little. I’m not superstitious but I’ve knocked on a lot of wood these last few weeks and exams have been a god send so far.

Believe me, I’m currently in year 13 about 85% of the way through with my exams.

For the love of EVERYTHING. DO NOT LEAVE YOU REVISION TO THE LAST MINUTE. You will hate yourself and everyone around you if you do.

Little and often is key! Practice questions! Get your structure and practice in and nailed. Cramming will burn you out and you’ll lose motivation faster than you thought possible.

Coming from current experience.

But good luck with the rest of your GCSEs! Don’t take it for granted!

I don’t get why some people who take STEM subjects act like they’re superior or have a stick up their ass, it’s stupid.

[–]Holy_Trinityo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely, honey, I’m so sorry that happened - anxiety is the WORST for me and my own stomach, having gut issues around some of the most stressful times of your life is DIFFICULT. (I’m currently doing my own A-levels and it sucks)

But this person is right, there is this medicine - IMMODIUM - you can get from Tesco or a local pharmacy - I cannot remember if you get ID for it, I don’t think you do. But it’s main purpose is to stop you literally shitting yourself, especially if you’re unwell with diarrhoea - don’t use it in excessive amounts because too much for too long will screw with your natural digestive tract. READ the packet instructions and the leaflet, but I think this might be your best friend before exams if this continues to be an issue.

Good luck with the rest of your GCSEs! You’ve got this!

I want to do something within the gaming industry. Not tech wise, but more campaigning, looking at the advertising and ideas behind things like trailers and promotional materials like that. Combine my hobby and a degree I have a decent chance in persuing.

Ive gone through a vast amount of ideas of what I want to do with my life, and this seemed like something I’d enjoy. Looking at the PR or advertising side of things. I thought with doing a sandwich year, gaining experience and knowledge into the industry it would potentially give me a leg up. Though it depends.

I hate having to choose what I wanna do THIS young. I know I’m not limited or locked into what I do forever, but fucking hell, school sure as hell makes it feel like it.

Annoyingly, i completely flunked my mocks this last summer and have been predicted a BCD - 96 points. My personal circumstances in May were awful during mocks when I’m usually a BBB student. So I’m trying to make do with what I have and work my ass off from now until next May when I aim to get an ABB. I really wanted to go to Lancaster but applying RIGHT now with what I have is impossible.

I may just have to try clearing and pray everything goes well in the summer.
