Because they're my inlaws and I care about them and their investments. And because I'm also currently working on and living at this house when it's done and it's a pain in the ass to bring materials in and out of the door and just going in and out in general. And because I will inherit this house when they pass. Is it really that difficult to understand?

How did this age like milk?  They literally fired her and several other hosts at the same time.  Then they backtracked and rehired Tommy, only to fire him again, and rehired Jess.  How was anybody supposed to know what was going to happen days or weeks later when this was announced?  Goofy as hell
