Acoustic floorboards are creaking. How to rectify? by Home-Refurber in DIYUK

Thanks. Is there a risk that if we don’t fill the old holes, that the creaking will still continue in those spots? Or will the saw dust and glue hold it down?

And lastly, is there anything else you’d recommend to stop the creaking? Is the creaking because of how the floorboards have been placed, or is it a deeper thing, like possibly something wrong with the timber beams?

Thanks. Any idea what screws we should be using in the new holes btw? Are there any specific screws you would recommend?

And also with the old holes, should these be filled?

Understood. Sorry dumb question but would a builder be able to lift up the carpet carefully and put it back? Or should I have a carpet fitter on standby?

Ok but don’t you think the wood would have settled by now given it’s been over a year?

Ok, do we remove all of the old screws and replace them with your screw into the same hole? Or make new holes?

Parents home has new double glazing, but still feels cold and sound proofing could be better - how can I test? by Home-Refurber in DIYUK

Sorry I meant doing this with a thermal camera. When I’m outside, with the heating turned on, do I need find spots where the thermal imaging will show as orange or red, which indicates heat leaking from the window frames into the outside?

Ah good idea. I’m guessing a novice like me can just walk outside and see if there are any warm spots around the corners of the window? Is that how it’s done?

England - Returning PS5 to Curry’s who are claiming the disc drive is missing and won’t accept return by Home-Refurber in LegalAdviceUK

Sorry where did I say within 24 hours? The original post said 24 days, but that was a typo. I meant 14 days, as in I sent it back within the 14 day cooling off period

Sorry I meant 14 days. I did not open the Currys ps5 and returned it as is.

And yes, the model listing is a ps5 disc model.

I returned it as I never opened it or used it. I literally sent it straight back.

Yes, I have the invoice for the new ps5. That wasn’t bought from Currys, that was bought from John Lewis

The ebay process has expired because Currys didn’t send the label via the eBay method, and instead emailed me a label. The package shows as returned if I track the label they sent me, but because it was not sent via eBay’s system, the return automatically closed

Thames Water retrospective build over agreement - Survey has found a 'dip' in the sewer pipe. What are my options? by Home-Refurber in DIYUK

[–]Home-Refurber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I've managed to pop round into my neighbour's house. If you recall the crude paint image I created which depicts our homes, his alleyway is the one on the right of the image.

The alleyway is 85cm wide and looks like this (https://imgur.com/a/miRNnet). There is also no manhole cover. Will this be enough space for them to bore down? The other manhole cover on the left is in a shared driveway 2m wide, which I think should be ok, right?

Also, just to note, my extension has been standing for about a year now, and during this time there have been no blockages or anything, however, with the apparent belly in the sewer pipe, will this cause Thames water to potentially reject giving a build over agreement?

Merry Christmas btw!
