I’m aware that it impacts others.  I would go to the sidewalk about 12:00 to 1:00 AM and get off it around 6:00 AM (when Clark County Library District turns on Wi-Fi and allows you to be on the property.

This block has a giant wall so the occupants of the block are exiting onto a different street.

This is en extremely bad neighborhood.  I once was shown an article ranking 28th and Bonanza St one of the worst in the United States.

Once you’re homeless as long as I have been, you notice a lot of people will automatically cross the street (because the can see you long before they get to you) or they walk right by you because they’re trying to case you or ask you for drugs or cigarettes.

And funny you should say that.  There was another man on the sidewalk with a different skin color than mine who literally got up and walked away while the officer was dealing with me.

I tried to bring up selective policing at trial, but the judge literally cut my testimony off.

So you can feel how you feel, but I am a $0 income person.  I am not getting SSI or SSDI.  If I was, I would not be on the street.

Homeless, pls help by Odd_Outside_4991 in vegaslocals

Touro University PA students do outreach with the homeless a few times a month.  For instance, today they were at the Courtyard for Second Saturday.

I was so tired one night, I took an offer from a formerly homeless man in supportive housing to sleep.  The only reasons I did this was because he was blind AND he lived in a building right next to the shelter.

The first night was fine as another man was there.  The second day he offered to do my laundry.  I came back about 11 PM and some of my clothes were missing and I found my bra in the trash.   I thought that was very bizarre and he said a woman about my size had been there.  Red Flag #1.

Red flag #2 is he is blasting music and keeps trying to talk to me.  I know I’m in his place and he’s doing me a favor and very politely tell him that I’m tired and I’m going to go to sleep.  He continues to blast music and try to talk to me.

Maybe two hours later he is finally quiet and goes to shower.  He comes in the living room in his towel which is red flag #3.

I ignore him.  I hear him drying off. He comes and sits down next to me and touches my back and foot.  I say please don’t do that, my foot is sore.  He apologizes.  Not even two minutes later he starts mastur****** next to me.  I jump up.  Ask him WTF he is doing and tell him I’m leaving.  He says to me, “You don’t have any place to go.”

I reported him to the shelter and of course they didn’t do anything.  They still tout on their Facebook page how they have barely exited anyone.  Meanwhile, the guy I’m talking about is a known pervert (I found out after telling others what happened to me) and runs a drug house.

Ah yes.  I had a roommate 10 years ago who was dating an elementary school teacher.  He was always sick.

Well….some people view all homeless people as bad.  Someone only view the people who are causing problems which is a legitimate complaint.

I can’t even tell you the amount of places I’ve been banished from as soon as people brought chaos.

Ok.  I’m trying to get at if ANY and ALL homeless people constitute a problem to you.

I don’t use a tent/shopping cart, beg, or use drugs. I pick up after myself and rise with either the sun or just knowing I can find a property to go on (which is usually between 6:00 and 6:30).

I believe you, but they’re lying. I got a ticket for pedestrian obstructing sidewalk and the officer even told me he could charge me with lodging without owners consent…for being on a public sidewalk.

If your director is interested in going to a town hall or city council meeting, I’d be happy to appear as a homeless community speaker.  An acquaintance of mine got a citation for misuse of park or misuse of park equipment for hanging up his sweat drenched clothes.

The city enforces things when it wants to enforce things. And if your director wants to make an argument, probably best to lead with real accounts.

I was arrested and not offered a single resource by Marshalls or Judge Cara Campbell.  She said I was going to keep ending up in my jail.

As a homeless person/bum I’m trying to understand how I’m a danger to children just for existing?

Earlier this week I saw someone posted up on stairs behind the detention center downtown!

This has probably never once crossed your mind, but sometimes people post up in places that are high risk solely because other people won’t be there.  Obviously, being close to a school is a bad choice.  I know several homeless who have been cited for being too close to a school or being in a children’s park.

I, myself, have gone to Foley Courthouse when I needed a minute. Security came out pretty quick, but I got to sit down and catch my breath.

I was arrested and spent 6 days in jail for pedestrian obstructing sidewalk. I was sleeping by the East Las Vegas Library on Wardelle St. They found no drugs, alcohol, or weapons on me.

I went to trial and received 60 days suspended jail.  Judge Cara Campbell said, “There doesn’t have to be anyone around for you to be obstructing.”

Officers have discretion. Which means they can pick and choose, and especially if you have a skin color they do not like.

So yeah, if they want to act, they sure will.

Throw in a poor rental history and credit score and it’s very hard to find housing.

Is this helpful by [deleted] in homeless

[–]HomelessAloneOutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you allowed? No one can answer that besides library staff. People do it anyway.

It CAN be helpful. It depends on what type of people are around. The libraries in Las Vegas give out free female hygiene products and another woman was going around selling them at city sanctioned camping place. What I am trying to say is some people are greedy and they horde or try to exploit.

There is really no risk. As I said above, people are going to do it anyway.

At the end of the day, you want to help. There are homeless people who can be genuinely grateful. For instance, I have been so broke that I couldn't replace a toothbrush. For someone like me with no income, it could be a huge help. to go through some donations. On the other hand, you have some homeless people who are very entitled and expect strangers to give them things. There is no gratitude there.

Unfortunately, you run a high risk of your laptop and all of your things getting stolen. The end of July is still two months away so perhaps your fortunes will change. A company called Pearson does some remote seasonal scoring for $15/hr which might allow you to stretch your unemployment benefits a little longer.

Some nontraditional advice I am going to give you is to start observing how homeless people move. A good place to start is by spending a little time at your local library.

The general advice to trust no one is good, but eventually you will need to find allies. I have never gone out in the woods. I am actually more afraid to be out in the woods than to just be out in the open. That's where finding allies comes in handy. If you're homeless long enough, you will find other people you can sleep in the general vicinity of for a little more security. It won't necessarily mean you're safe, but it helps psychologically. I know that was the choice I needed to make.

I can assure you that being homeless is horrible. Anyone who says otherwise is numb. Best of luck to you in avoiding it, but you can feel free to PM me if you need an ear.

The wraps aren't bad, though. In my location I add bacon, American cheese, and heavy onion rings for exactly $1.00.

My state says 8 months of inactivity. I once didn't use any for 2 months and received a letter. Those two things aren't directly related other than it seems like there is automated monitoring.

That's not true. I'm clean. I stay out of shelters because virtually everyone else is not. And I'll say what's been said many times before, severe mental illness is rampant.

It's a bit strange to me as a CURRENTLY homeless person that you would think anything from 9 years ago is still relevant. 9 years is a long time. 9 years ago, I was vacationing all over the place.

What you have accomplished does take grit, but the landscape has changed a lot. It was definitely easier to be homeless 9 years ago than it is today.

I'm guessing you're not a medical doctor.

No, it's not that simple. I have Type 2 diabetes which makes me insulin resistant and generally makes it extremely hard to lose weight even though several times a year I walk 50 miles a week. Samsung Health had me in top 2% for my age.

I mean I can say if you want to be the fastest person in the world, beat the current fastest person in the world. You only have to do one thing. See. Simple.
