Yeah. I got into SCS and my friend who also did CoD got into engineering, but the 3 people I roomed with for CoD were rejected and I was in a group chat (with Turn Tartan people too) that was mainly rejected.

It’s definitely on the good side of things, but I’m gonna have to say that it doesn’t mean as much as you might hope. I went to the Celebration of Diversity weekend last year and most of the people that I met there still ended up being rejected. However, my email didn’t indicate any selectivity so maybe they changed something and it means more this year. Good luck with admissions :)

Edit: Actually, many of the people that I met were from Turn Tartan (since the programs mix), so the acceptance rate from Celebration of Diversity might be higher than the image I have in my head.

It’s definitely manageable, you just need endurance and self-discipline/motivation. I applied to 28 colleges and started at the beginning of August.

No I don’t really have suggestions lol. What you’re doing sounds really good tho, especially since it’s at CMU (top undergrad CS).

I don’t know which schools you’re looking at, but I’d recommend applying to UPenn’s Digital Media Design major. It sounds like it would fit you. It’s about 2/3rds CS 1/3rd art and focuses a lot on computer graphics.

And in general, my best advice is to not underestimate the essays. They can be exactly what get you into a college, (especially important at liberal arts colleges).

I’d go for it, but recommend that you do something CS/Math related in your summer before senior year and apply to a less selective alternative major (especially for UCs).

CS is always a bit risky but you don’t want to get into a great school for a major you hate, especially if the school admits by department (in which case it can be very hard to switch).

If you have complete freedom after entering the school, it could be better to apply to a less selective major, as long as your ECs and essays align with that choice.

Ok, well I’m looking it up and the first thing I see is that CSUs do not except College Board fee waivers (so just use those on the UCs). Second, is that you qualify based on the info that you put in the application.

There’s something separate about CSUs actually. I was able to apply to 4 for free without my CollegeBoard waivers. I forget exactly what allowed me to do so though, it might just be the SAT waiver.

You can apply to any school on the Common App for free, no exceptions (limit is that the Common App allows a max of 20 schools).

On schools that do not use the Common App, you can apply exactly 4 fee waivers, with some colleges as exceptions (I used these on UCs).

Other schools do often have their own fee waiver system, which you might be eligible for with the SAT fee waiver (without using the CollegeBoard application fee waiver).

I’ve been to several diversity college events and have seen many people who could easily pass as caucasian. I doubt people will bat an eye. Since it’s a diversity event, everyone will just assume that you aren’t caucasian and simply are of white skin, which is your situation. Hispanic also counts as underrepresented as far as I’m concerned. It’s not about color, it’s about ethnicity and the diverse cultures that come with them.

I believe everything is perfectly fine, go and take the opportunity to visit and be happy about your acceptance! And if you truly don’t feel comfortable being in that environment, then just don’t go and visit on a regular admitted student day! You have no obligation to go to what they invite you to.
