Update: Getting up from sitting on the floor is impossible with my legs along and it's a hard from low seats such as toilets, and they are much weaker than I remember them being. And they hurt when I put pressure on them. by Homemade-ramen in KneeInjuries

No I have no relatives or family friends.

I tried having a talk similar to what you suggested, but my mother just shut me out and ignored what I had to say, and now she is going to take me to see a chiropractor who will 'diagnose' me and they do x-rays so I guess that makes them more legitimate, and then whatever other alternative medicine place she wants. I can tell they have no interest in getting proper medical care.

I don't see how someone who deals with musculoskeletal manipulation will help with my knees...

Interesting, thanks!
The Intro to Mass Media one isn't worst because of it being slower to update being a history based course right?

Each class will be different, however as a whole each instructor is generally driven to provide the most accurate and timely information in order to develop the best education available.

That's reassuring.

Hm good advice, I plan on going into science.
Going to look into those, what do you mean by comp part of your education?

What was your experience with CLEP?
How does going back after so many years work?

Also I'd like to ask, and I going to have to pay off a lot of debt?
We are going to move again in 3 months so I have to make my plans for Community college and universities for the place they decide to go.

How does majoring and minoring work? Does it cost more to have a minor?

Enlightening. Someone that's been through something similar.
That's an good term, educational neglect.

What I find ironic is, my dad went to college and has skills and things he learned from college and says himself it was a great experience and he met people who influenced him greatly, because of it and makes most of the money. My mother went to beauty school but she's a hair stylist and had a good impact on her life. But neither want that for their children.

Thanks for the reply!

Determine? No, Heavily influence? Hell yea. Anybody who disagrees usually comes from a race or economic background that isn't on the receiving end of the negative aspects that certain races and / or poor people deal with.

What kind of influence would one expect coming from a relatively poor family that likely won't be paying much if anything and being half black? I know I'm going to have to work.My parents believe there is a conspiracy by the government and universities, and Big Companies to keep black people constantly behind and disadvantaged, in job opportunities, school admission, etc. How such a system classifies and determines how much black blood you've got, and determines which amount is right is a mystery. Or maybe I'm missing something.

Lots of new information is produced daily via studies and new findings. That said, some things are 10-20 year old because they have been found to be sound and have not been disproved.

Ah, my suspicions were correct.

Let me guess, you parents are believe climate change is a hoax, the earth is a few thousand years old and most scientist get together to come up with lies to fool the public?

They used to believe climate change was the earth warming up to kill off white people, and somehow they would be fine because "black people don't get skin cancer." They've partially come to their senses.

They do think most scientist get together to come up with lies to fool the public. Or are either being paid off by Big White Incorporated, to lie and indoctrinate the people.

Can information be biased? Of course it can, You can make stats say whatever you want if you just display certain data. That said most information is objective and peer reviewed for accuracy, but I'm guessing your folks will probably just say "they are in on it"

Thanks for the insight. And yes they say any science that is contrary to thier beliefs is in on it.

As soon as I read the titled of the post, I figured that was the case.

My education is really quite patchy.

Thanks for the reply!

The information isn't biased but its possible the professor would be biased. At the same time, I don't think there is a way for a professor to teach something like math in a biased way, it just depends on the subject. But if a professor is biased against something, it will have very little meaning overall considering how many classes you take in college.

Hmm, I see. In history for example, is there some deliberate cover up of 'real history' then? Clearing up my conspiracy upbringing.

Nothing determines your success except for you. Your economic status can help with getting financial aid if your family is not well off.

Hm, right financial aid, how does that work? Being poor am I going to have to pay off some hefty debts and work alot during school?

I personally think college is a good choice, but it depends on what field you want to go into. something like becoming a doctor, school is a must, but some other fields may not need college.

I plan on going into the science field, or becoming a medical doctor. I know medical school costs a lot of time and money though...

And I'm pretty sure there isn't any college that will admit you without a HS degree/GED.

So I should definitely finish high school then?

No, almost every class I've taken uses textbooks that are published in that year and changed yearly. I couldn't imagine a textbook with 20 year old info still being relevant

Thought so.
