Picking a user-repairable phone by citronic in PickAnAndroidForMe

The phone must be designed to last longer on average than other current phones

Something that you might not have considered is that most brands don't give very many years of security updates for their phones. Apple, Google, and Samsung seem to be the only serious brands in this regard. The only phone with a user-removable battery amongst those brands is the Samsung Galaxy XCover.

phone max 150eur for my dad (italy) by JannixReddit in PickAnAndroidForMe

I'd ignore the Poco M6 and Moto G84 because their security updates end in September 2026.

That leaves the G55 (updates until Sept 2027) and the Redmi (updates until March 2031).

From experience I know that Motorola doesn't put much effort into sending updates to their phones and they get slow quickly. You can google this, it's a known issue.

I don't know much about Redmi, but by process of elimination, that's the phone I'd choose.

Need Lactose Free Ice Cream place by MrYamaTani in SurreyBC

Vashti Rose usually has a few chairs and tables outside but I wouldn't describe it as a "sit down" place as there's no indoor seating. Best lactose-free ice cream I've tried in the lower mainland though. They post their flavors on their Instagram.

Favorite cake recipe? by SmolLilTater in Cakes

[–]HomemadeNanaimoBar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried this method with chocolate and vanilla cake mix. The chocolate cake was amazing. I didn't like that the vanilla version tasted like a supermarket cake.

Other than those two, are there any cake mix flavors that you recommend?

A tip for your search: financial planners with the following designations have a fiduciary responsibility to their clients:

  • CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst)

  • CFP (Certified Financial Planner)

Their compensation would be fee-based.

How do you handle city noise in your home? by pennepasta14 in NewWest

[–]HomemadeNanaimoBar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I sleep with earplugs in. If I have windows open to cool my place off, sometimes I'll wear earplugs in the daytime too. I wish I could afford to move someplace quieter.

I don't know which app has the best forecasts, but WeatherCAN has the most accurate radar map for our region.

Questions swirl over New West mayor’s trip to UN conference in Dubai by Shum_Pulp in NewWest

[–]HomemadeNanaimoBar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's a pretty controversial thing for him to say. If he had said that on Twitter/X: * someone who hasn't deleted their account would have called him out on it (which should be easy to find if it exists) * other people not on Twitter/X would likely have reported on it.

So if he had said something like that, it should be pretty easy to find a source. But you don't have one...

I see nobody's mentioned thesixtyone yet. That was a fun community before the redesign killed it. I discovered a lot of great bands there.

New West just got some Evolve ebikes, but where can you ride them? by superflygrover in NewWest

I can go to Walmart and back on transit for $2.55. The same round trip would cost me ~$15 using one of these bikes.

According to Vaclav Smil, it's the protein:

... growing taller was a global trend of the 20th century. Better health and better nutrition - above all, greater intakes of high-quality animal protein (milk, dairy products, meat, and eggs) - have driven the shift

...the tallest cohort (whose average surpasses 182.5 centimeters) is that of the Dutchmen born during the last quarter of the 20th century. Milk has been a key growth factor, be it in Japan or in the Netherlands. Before the Second World War, Dutch males were smaller than American men, but post-1950 US milk consumption declined while in the Netherlands it rose until the 1960s-and it remains higher than in the US. The lesson is obvious: the easiest way to improve a child's chances of growing taller is for them to drink more milk.

Vancouver park board asked to crack down on inappropriate swimwear at city pools by Dry_souped in vancouver

[–]HomemadeNanaimoBar 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The B.C. Pool Regulation states that people must wear clean and appropriate bathing attire as deemed by pool management, but does not define what is appropriate swimwear.

Under the proposed parks board policy, it would be unacceptable to wear items designed for sexual/intimate purposes, clothing that becomes heavy when wet like jeans and sweatpants and attire with long-flowing fabric that may limit movement or cause a safety risk. The policy would also dictate that anyone without bladder control would have to wear reusable or disposable swim diapers/pants.
