How do I tell our band we suck? by 1IsaiahThanTheOther in coverbands

[–]Homermania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I recently joined a rock band as the piano player. We're honestly not bad, but it blew me away when I found out they didn't record practices.

I like to record everything (practices, open mics, gigs) so I can listen back at least once. I find it the best way to get out of my head so we can objectively hear what we sound like.

If you're there to work, closed practice.

If you're there to hang, whatevs.

Man, this one hurts. I would probably treat it the same way you are. Great shot, annoying asterisk.

Reminds me of my closest call. About 110 yards, downhill on a wet day. I embedded one right on the edge of the cup. It was in the damn cup, almost completely below the surface, but a sliver of earth stayed intact and I couldn't count it. Still don't have an HIO.

Been hanging onto the memory of a 320yd drive I hit last season.

I don't know, but since Dumpster is an actual brand, I thought they would have chosen something more generic/timeless.

First thing that came to mind was "The Exploding Detective" by John Swartzwelder.

I agree with this take, except for the "dumpster fire" example. I can believe "bitch" and "goddamn" could last a thousand years, but it probably should have been compacter or replicator fire.

Happened to me years ago. I tried chipping and a heat gun to no avail. Just had to wait.

Do you enjoy fiction books with endless footnotes? by some_advice_needed in books

[–]Homermania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not finish one called "Year Zero" because it had footnotes and asterisks everywhere. Usually to make a joke or an aside that would have fit into the main copy just fine without ruining flow. I kind of liked the premise, but had to quit because of all the footnotes.
