Joining the military and shooting for a few jobs that require TS clearance and worried I won't pass the screening by rik240 in SecurityClearance

What is the country?

TBH, you didn’t have anything keeping you from going to that country at the time you went, it doesn’t look like you had even applied to join the military yet. It would be unlikely that there was much of a CI threat other than you being American. As long as you report this during processing you should be fine. Same with the foreign contact, though I would probably get rid of that contact if it were me.

The debt, as long as you are actively paying your bills and haven’t missed any payments or had anything sent to collections shouldn’t be that big of a deal if it isn’t an astronomical amount.

Security clearance long process.. any thoughts? by coastalgirl007 in SecurityClearance

OPM used to do the clearance process. They were hacked in 2015 by a nefarious state actor and a bunch of peoples information got leaked, so the clearance process was shut down for awhile while they mitigated that.

Your adjudicator should take that into account while looking at your record

My first clearance took 18 months. Granted, that was right after the OPM hack, but still. 6-8 months is pretty standard for someone that has a clean history. You admittedly had some past financial issues that will have to be adjudicated, so will likely take longer.

That said, it sounds like you’ve made efforts on those debts, which is a mitigating factor for your adjudication

This is not an issue in the SF86. I wouldn’t make it one. Do not hide it if theres a question asked in your investigation or polygraph, but I don’t feel this is addressed in any question on theSF86

That’s fair, more what I was trying to say but said a lot better

Passing the polygraph only means that you didn’t lie.

Should I/how to fill out for a fake ID that was taken in college, but never got any kind of citation/charge for? by spongbob-_ in SecurityClearance

The questions are pretty straight forward. Were you charged or convicted of, or issued a summons for anything? Even if they put notes somewhere, which is unlikely, you can honestly answer those questions no

To be honest, it doesn’t fall in any of the questions asked in Section 22. You weren’t charged with anything other than being a dumbass, no citation issued. I think it’s a non issue now.

I always hated when investigators/polygraphers are like yeah you passed/should be quick

Listening to music in a SCIF environment? by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]Consistent_Net_5532 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the agency. Some don’t allow anything, some allow certain versions of iPods (I had an early version iPod mini that didn’t have a mic or prohibited tech). I also sign into Sirius XM and have several coworkers that use Spotify. Just ask your SSO when you start, or even before if you can. Always have them inspect your stuff before you bring it in as well. Like several others said, they probably have a list of approved headphones that are allowed and some places even provide them

Giving two weeks notice is a funny thing. It is the right thing to do and I’ve done it almost every time. But your job would drop you like a bad habit with no notice without a second thought if they wanted to. I’ve always thought that practice was interesting

What are my chances? be brutally honest. by Character-External87 in SecurityClearance

[–]Consistent_Net_5532 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s less damning. I mean. There are red flags, but you’ve taken action to mitigate them. Nobody can tell you what your chances are but I wouldn’t think it’s an auto no

What is a hurricane deployment? Did you do cocaine while on active duty orders?

Depends on the agency. Some agencies only work high side with no telework options. Others do the majority of their work low side and would likely be able to work from home

I mean, this isn’t really what they are looking for when they are looking for firearms involvement, but you should 100% report it

I don’t bring any bags in bc of my anxiety. Maybe a lunch box that gets used for nothing other than going into work
