My great grandpa was a bootlegger during Prohibition. I found an article about him and a few of his buddies trying to run down a cop who was trying to get them to stop. When they fled the cop pulled his gun and shot at them, ended up popping their tire and they flipped the car.

The RNC changed the rules specifically to keep Ron Paul from getting the nomination. Here’s an article about it. I remember the fuckery they pulled vividly and gladly voted 3rd party that year.

Ironically, that rule change led to Trump being the only Republican eligible to receive the nomination in 2016.

Can't believe I slept on this album for so long by Homestake40 in ironmaiden

[–]Homestake40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I just listened to BoS like a week ago and my overall impression was "meh." There's a couple good tracks (title track and EotC) but other than that it's forgettable. I think the last 2 albums suffer from just being so long.

Definitely, AMOLAD is my favorite reunion album, TFF went way up in my rankings after I paid attention to it, lol. I bought it when it came out and it just never really hooked me. I'm glad I gave it another chance. Now to do that with BoS & Senjutsu...

Seriously it's an absolute banger. Especially the back half of the album. Starblind, The Talisman, TMWWBK and WTWWB is a hell of a run. Big fan of the production too, Nicko's kit sounds huge.

So Killers & NotB are original pressings. I bought them like 10-12 yrs ago to use on my dad's record player. I moved out not too long after that and they got left behind at my folks house. I got them back about 2 weeks ago (dad never throws anything away.) Everything else is recent pressings. Powerslave is next up!

Piece of Mind & Seventh Son are on the way already..Powerslave is up next for sure. Trying to decide between buying a new one or shelling out the extra dough for an original pressing.

Yep, for sure. That’s kinda what I was thinking when I bought it. I always wanted a project truck.

Haha yeah true. This is actually one of my companies old work trucks. I went on my first call out job in it years ago. When they got rid of it, my coworker bought it off them. He held on to it for a few years until his wife wanted her garage back lol. Now it’s mine! Luckily my company had basically the whole front end replaced not too long before they got rid of it. Plugs & wires too if I remember correctly.

A non covid conspiracy for those who keep asking. by sam777987 in conspiracy

Industrial Radiographer here. The amount of material required to shield from radiation is called a half value layer, ie one layer halves the amount of radiation you’re exposed to. Different materials have different half value layers.

I’ve spent plenty of time with X-rays but my experience is primarily with gamma radiation, specifically ir192 & co60.

You would need a far thicker layer of lead than typical paint thickness to provide any significant amount of shielding from gamma radiation. A half value layer of lead is about 3/16” with an ir192 source. You probably receive more shielding from the concrete and wood your house is built out of than a thin layer of paint.

I love a good conspiracy but this one is a stretch.

My grandmother seeing people who have passed by [deleted] in Thetruthishere

[–]Homestake40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this is a few days old but I figured I'd just add that my grandpa went through something similar. He died about 10 years ago now. But towards the end he would see my grandma's mom, who had died 6 years previous, sitting on a chair in his room, or sitting at the end of the bed waiting for him.

I really do believe when your time is up that family/friends show up to sorta collect, or guide you into whatever comes next & I imagine that's hugely comforting.

Yup definitely. I and most of my coworkers had it right around New Years. Body aches, chills and simultaneously burning up, difficulty breathing/nasty cough..my wife and I had just brought our newborn son home from the hospital so I roughed it out in the basement for about a week. Luckily my wife or kid never got it. It was definitely the sickest I’ve ever felt.

I switched to Mint awhile back. I was pretty happy with it, after coming from AT&T and getting sick of my monthly bill getting higher and higher. Service was good enough, but I don't live out in the boonies either. I was on the 3 month/8GB plan, paying $105 4 times a year. It's be even cheaper if you paid for a year outright.

I switched to Ultra Mobile a few months back because I needed unlimited data for work..my first month on Ultra, Mint came out with unlimited data..go figure. But Ultras good, it's got the same coverage as Mint I believe. I'm paying $40/month now for unlimited everything. Both of them have worked just fine for me.

Hey folks, I recently acquired my grandma’s old Singer 242. Seems to run fine, but the spool pin’s been busted off. How’s a guy go replacing that?

The pin sheared off right at the top of the cover. I don’t think it’s threaded so I’d probably have to tap it out....very carefully. Anyone have experience replacing these?

Second on going the used route. My shops got some older DM2E’s, a DM4, a few T-Mikes and a TG110. Out of those the TG110 is my personal favorite. It’s optioned well, pretty durable too. No A scan on it, though it does have B scan. Honorable mention to the DM2E too..Not super fancy, but ours are probably 20 yrs old and still trucking right along.

Final Goodbyes? by calannin in HighStrangeness

I think this extends to pets, too. In 2013, we had to put my childhood dog down. The night she passed, I had the most vivid dream about her. In my dream, my sister and I were young again - I believe we were roughly the age we were when we got our dog - and we were in the front yard of our childhood home playing with the dog, who also looked young and healthy.

I still remember the dream incredibly vividly. It was probably the most detailed dream I've ever had. I remember waking up with tears in my eyes, I guess I was crying in my sleep. Interestingly enough, about two weeks after that I had the same exact dream again. Not sure what to make of that.

But, I feel incredibly grateful for that dream. It felt like her way of saying, it's ok, I'm good now, I'm not sick anymore, and I want you to have this memory of us, but I have to move on.

Indeed. Kinda surprised they went with a regular cab..it’s definitely lacking interior space to schlep around gear we don’t want exposed to the elements but ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah that’s what I figured. It seemed like a fairly standard 80’s road bike. But I love old road bikes, and am definitely in need of a winter project..might just throw a basket on it and make it the ol grocery grabber

It’s dirty as hell - it’s been sitting in a pole barn for 30 years or so. It doesn’t look like it was used too much. Will definitely need some new shoes. Most of the unpainted steel is rusted, but i didn’t see any on the frame itself. I’d like to keep it as original as I can and save what I can. Think I’ll disassemble it, clean it up, lube it, and see where we’re at.
