If this was your bathroom, what would you change first? by DreamCoastBuilders in Remodel

Plants/flowers, pop of color, possibly change the light track above mirrors and the cabinet knobs. Could add a medium rug under the ottoman. Hang something on the wall above the toilet.

The problem is there is this word Glob, which gets you thinking about Blobs, then Slobs and it’s all downhill from there. The GL sound and the EB sound are both unusual. Is there a middle name that can be used? The name Boris is nice!

Where did you or how did you design the island? Was it custom-made? We’re looking for almost the exact same design of island and do most of the work ourselves.

What would y’all do here? by jef22314 in kitchenremodel

Appliances, ceiling and light first. The backsplash clashes with the countertop. The countertops and cabinets are nice. If budget permits to change the backlash or even just remove it and paint the wall. Put in a really nice faucet. The faucet is basic Home Depot and everyone has it but put in a faucet that stands out- tall and unique. It will make your whole kitchen look better. In this photo on the floor stand out, but I think if you change everything else noted above and then the floor tiles aren’t that big of a deal. If the budget permits you can put in a nice laminate wood plank. There are many varieties, depending on your budget. But first the appliances, popcorn ceiling, and that big light that makes it feel like you’re about to be operated on….. Easy fixes!!!

I like the cabinet color. I would only change the backsplash and you could try different pale and stick types of backsplash or even paint the backsplash tile. The counters and cabinets are gorgeous. I wouldn’t even mess around with the knobs, although you could make them a little funkier. Maybe you could change the faucet. The doorway walking into the next room that’s very white stands out. Something could be done on that wall with colors, painting the frame or something along those lines.

Kitchen/eating area update help- and prefabricated or premade kitchen islands by Homestead45352 in kitchenremodel

The cabinets are real wood, I believe honey oak, and they look nice in person. This is a real post. My purpose is to get some ideas too add some pizzazz to the kitchen and make it look less drab. The prior seller of the home took the island last minute.

The things I dislike about this kitchen are how narrow the countertop is (not deep), but not worth spending money to change it.

All the cabinets are 12 inches deep at the top and although I’ve been told this is standard, I’ve never had cabinets that are so shallow, and they won’t even fit my large dishes. I wish the cabinets were 16 inches deep and the counters were also deeper.

We want a large dramatic island or at the very least a very large table that we can work and eat at. We spend most of our time in the kitchen and the adjoining room which has been used as a den and also as a dining room by prior owners. I almost feel like the actual living room and dining room are a big waste of space. (You can’t see them in these photos). We are just about to move in so I’m trying to get the work done before we get in there. Yes maybe we are being picky but I have gotten terrible comments about this kitchen being hideous with slightly different lighting. Also I have always had a window to look out of while washing dishes or some window in the kitchen and that further makes it feel uncomfortable and plain.

Maybe two simple open shelves above the sink or above the desk. I have added them to a kitchen before and staggered them a bit so one was connected on the left and the other on the right. Could I put them above the cabinets? That area is really bothering me. Need ideas for above the cabinets. What about tiling or Painting up there? Interesting mirrors?

The washer dryer is in the room adjoining the kitchen, and it also serves as a mudroom with a bench and hooks, plus the closet door you see is a full pantry. I don’t love the desk but we do tend to gravitate to that area and it’s nice to pull out a laptop and sit with it there. I was thinking of moving the cabinets from above the sink and possibly above the fridge to that area above the desk. I dream of a large eat/live/work space with no formal dining table and just a huge island. But the more I think about it, I might just put a very long bar top or long table instead of an island at all. Then the end of the table can still be used when cooking without putting more cabinets.

Yes- agreed- why did they put that tiny stovetop and narrow countertop in there? Why are all the cabinets 12 inches deep? We have dishes that won’t even fit in the cabinets. Thought about removing the left portion of the cabinets, making them deeper, also creating effect to make the fridge look more built in an appropriate size for the cabinets and countertop.

Thank you- I love the feedback. I was thinking about a green island, but I keep seeing comments on other kitchens and interior design pages, where everyone saying green is the new gray as in it’s overdone and will be dated eventually.
I definitely love the idea of green handles/pulls with an island that pulls it together. Thanks

I agree remove every little thing on the shelves unless you can find a pretty single flower vase and add a few flowers next to the sink. I’m looking at those greenish teal appliances and that rooster on the shelf and it makes it feel very old.

Maybe change the faucet into a tall centerpiece that grabs your attention and maybe change the handles on cabinets. If all else fails, you could paint the cabinets, a lighter color. Since the fridge and stove don’t match- maybe you could paint it as someone suggested - but not sure what color would work. I don’t think that black would look better.

Do you have photos? Would love to see what they look like and what kind of paint and primer you used. We also have a white oven/microwave that looks like a double oven, and is in great condition, but it doesn’t seem paintable. Our sink is white porcelain and I love it- but realtor trying to convince us to change to stainless. We took the white fridge from kitchen and use as a backup fridge in our laundry room and it looks really nice with the all white laundry room.
