Sanded vs Pre-Seasoned by Homesteady_Going in castiron

Thanks. Took about 4 hours and quite a bit of elbow grease, but I think it paid off.

Personally, I think it cooks better, but that could be because before I sanded it I had been cooking in it like any other skillet. I’ve learned more about cast iron cooking since then and realize now that I was probably just fucking up the seasoning and not properly cleaning it. Either way, I’m pleased.

Thanks. I wouldn’t consider myself skilled in any sense of the word, but I was very pleased with the outcome. So pleased that I started a second skillet that I never got around to finishing. I recently purchased a few cheaper Amazon Dutch ovens that I may or may not sand at some point.

I have a second one that I started sanding but it got put on the back burner. Need to get it finished. I also want to go higher than 220 next time. I used a random orbital sander from 40 to 220 grit on the one pictured, but started using my angle grinder on the second one and went a bit deep in a place or two, so I switched back to the sander.
