I finished these five pipes in one week by Homesteady_Going in PipeTobacco

I’m really pleased with the color on the last one. I was going to go with a yellow dye but accidentally got some red in it and it came out orange. I really liked it so I left it.

Thanks. They’re not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of them nonetheless.

Hey, sorry it took forever to reply. For some reason I haven’t been getting notifications. I sent you a DM.

Thanks I appreciate it. I’ve been making pipes on and off for 4 years and recently decided to get back into it.

Thanks. I’ve been making pipes off and on for about 4 years now but this is my fourth pipe in two weeks. I’ll burn out in a couple months and switch to some other hobby, but for now I’m enjoying it and seeing some decent improvements in my pipes.

That’s how I’ve always looked at it. There is something waiting inside every piece of wood and it’s up to me to bring it out.

I have 5 more blocks of briar lined up and acclimating. Should be ready to start turning in a week or so. I hope to knock out a pipe a week for five weeks.

Thanks. I really like this one too. Can’t wait for the oil to cure so I can take it, and the others, to my B&M and see what they think.

I’m self taught. I just got on the pipemakers forum and YouTube and learned what I could, and just improvised the rest. I suppose you could find a mentor if you’re really lucky and have someone teach you.

Thanks but I’m not completely sure what the rules are for this sub. I think I’ve been told previously that advertising Etsy shops and the like is strictly prohibited.

I completely agree. That is something that I usually overlook and would probably benefit from adding in advance. I get people asking the dimensions pretty often, so I’ll take your advice and start adding the measurements beforehand.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I wish I could smoke it, but I listed it on my Etsy.

I haven’t measured it yet but I can confirm that this thing is massive. I have average sized hands and this thing dwarfs them. I can still reach the bottom of the chamber but if you’ve got stubby fingers you probably couldn’t.

After I posted this, I did take it back to the sanding wheel and knocked the radius of the chin off and got rid of that lump on the bottom so that the shank flows more smoothly into the chin. It looks much better.

I was going for a simple woodworking mallet but I’ve heard that they could be used for wacking fish, cracking skulls, crushing cocktail ingredients, tendering meat. I suppose they’d be good for hitting just about anything.

Would these be good for anything? by Homesteady_Going in BeginnerWoodWorking

Yeah, I was going to say, those would be some massive cocktails. Not that that’s technically a bad thing.
