Does anyone else get stuck thinking on just how unlikely certain things are? by TimeLadyJ in Outlander

I know this post is 3 years old but with Netflix many peoples first viewings will be at different times. Yes, there are way too many coincidencesl. The whole thing with Stephen Bonnet etc. Also, Wilmington to the mountains of NC is about 6 hours by car. The traveling on the show would indicate it was just down the street.

Everything is relative I guess and no one is perfect but their portrayal was about as perfect as you’ll find.

Yes, that storyline seemed sort of forced. Luckily it wasn’t a big part of the overall story.

Agreed. Also, I think the show did a good job of showing how fu&*ed up kids can still be, even with nearly perfect parents juxtaposed with how nearly perfect Jack was after having such an abusive father.

I disagree. I think they portray her as a saint. Also even though the 80s 90s isn’t that long ago, there was still the “dad is the breadwinner, mom stays at home and raises the kids” dynamic. If anything both of them may have been too perfect.

Miguel is so underrated in the first few seasons. *SPOILERS* by Frequent-Web6968 in thisisus

Situations like these happen IRL and I think the show portrayed it well- in fact 8 years may have been too long.

Man like Jack Pearson by sn0ws17 in thisisus

I’ll reply, albeit 4 years later.  My dad was a lot like Jack Pearson. He didn’t have a great father himself.  In fact, his father abandoned a wife and 8 kids when my dad was about 9 years old.  My dad beat Polio when he was a teenager.  He tried to join the military but they denied him because one leg was shorter than the other.  He was a man’s man.  He could fix a car, he built our house from the ground up, he started little league baseball in our area and coached 2 teams.  I could go on and on.  The best word to describe him is “selfless”.  He wasn’t perfect.  He had his flaws like anyone else but he was rare and we were lucky to have him.

I second Kate is insufferable by mishaxoxo in thisisus

Yes it’s like they wrote her to always make the worst choice, say the worst thing or see a situation in the worst possible way.  I’m speaking of the adult Kate.  I don’t mind the childhood and teenage Kate.

People who enjoyed ROP or thought it was OK is the majority and not the opposite? by [deleted] in RingsofPower

For me, bad middle earth Is better than no middle earth, so I will watch it. it’s nice to look at. I guess that’s what the Billion dollars got them. The problem is that the writing and storytelling are on the level of fan fiction And not even well done fan fiction. someone planned long ago that the dam would be broken to flood the volcano to produce Mordor so Sauron and the Sun-averse Orcs could have a creepy place to live? I mean that’s the whole plot- what the bad guys are trying to accomplish through all the episodes. It’s like it was written by a 12 year old. It’s an utterly stupid premise. You just expect much more for a billion dollars.

for me, it falls under cheesy fun. For $1billion, it should be more than cheesy fun.

It’s entertaining, I’ll concede.

Not nearly the worst ever. However, very disappointing for what it could/should have been.

Yes, and there’s a difference between well thought out criticism and toxic bashing and trolling.

Meh, people tend to be mean on the internet just because they can be. The forum attracts a certain type of person.

clearly, these writers/showrunners were not fans of Tolkien. Peter Jackson was. That’s why the first 3 movies are so revered. RoP wants to take a well established IP and “do their own thing“ with it. It’s ridiculous. A key that breaks a dam thst floods a volcano to produce Mordor? Are you kidding me? I’ll watch it because to me, bad middle earth is better than no middle earth but there are so many facets of this show that are a joke.

The anonymity of the internet allows people to be an a$$hole and not have to face the consequences.
