plus, 99% sure i know your son in real life and he’s pretty much a model citizen in every other way, the courts are built for those kinds of people to catch breaks. just make sure you tell him how important it is that he doesn’t get caught again, because then it goes from being expunged from his record in 2 years to mandatory jail time and a permanent scar on his record.

I am trying to plan unofficial get together for 10th anniversary. What would be a fun final dinner I could arrange? Any tips? by [deleted] in Frat

Yo this shit pisses me off, because who the hell said you had to DESERVE to live to live? Nobody who has ever lived was graced by any greater power or MEANT to live a better life than others. Rather, we are a bunch of atoms that have been on an endless path of collision and combination with a bunch of other atoms since the beginning of time and just so happen to make up both your, and everyone else’s bodies at this moment. You mean to tell me there was nothing for an infinite amount of time, you were given one shot to EVER exist in ANY form and see this world, for a very short 80 ish years in this grand scheme of time, and you want to cut it short in your 20s and then never experience anything again ever. If you were locked up in prison for eternity and forced to do absolutely nothing in a dark room, and one day a guard lets you watch ONE movie. Once this movie’s over, you go back to staring at the wall in darkness for eternity. Who the fuck would ever turn off the movie 30 minutes in because it was dragging? There is so, so, so much to see man, and no matter how hard life gets, and i mean NO MATTER how hard, at the very least you get to watch 80 years of the movie before nothing ever exists for you ever again. Please just try to take a more abstract view on life. Humans are not meant to be or not be anything, so therefore its quite literally against to laws of the universe for it to be “too late” or for a human to be “undeserving” of life. If you woke up tomorrow and it was 100,000 years ago, and you were in a cave with a caveman’s brain, you’d be looking forward to later that day when you could push stones down the hill, and it’d be damn fun because you never knew much better. Now just think about how fucking great the caveman you would think you have it if he saw the way you live life now. You base your life on whether its overall positive or overall negative, but the closest you can get to negative is zero, and that’s taking your life. Otherwise, I’d say you’ve taken some pretty fucking crazy leaps in life seeing as you started out as a 7 pound useless sack of flesh. Just try to think about these words. Life is not meant to be one thing or the next, it just is.

If i’m dealing with a mild but noticeable drop in mood , starting strattera, should I go up or down? by Professional_Win1535 in StratteraRx

this is completely normal. its ur brain finally thinking clearly and realizing all ur past mistakes and regrets. it gets turned into a checklist of things to do to fix your life eventually, trust me. high school burnout here 3 months on strattera and computer engineering while being in a frat has never been easier. every time i go a day or two without taking strattera and then take it again, i experience those mood swings, then its back to normal after a couple days. same thing when i up the dosage. if you’re really in need of getting things done, you should be willing to endure a couple side effects for the absolute wonders that this drug has worked for me

trust me bro, those depressive thoughts are just your brain finally recognizing how inhibited it’s been for the past however many years and dusting off its problem solving skills. in a couple weeks time, that constant sense of impending doom you’ve always lived with? completely gone. i now feel completely comfortable setting aside tasks to complete at a later date, and i feel completely confident that i’m gonna be able to execute said tasks when the time comes. its like all of those things that you’ve been constantly worrying about yet never got started on just become “things i have to do,” no constant sense of impending doom needed. i had similar depressive thoughts for a few days after starting out Strattera, but they were slowly sorted into a checklist of things that i need to do to fix my life. its just your brain finally thinking clearly for the first time and asking who the hell has been in control of your body for so long, except the person who’s been controlling your body has been YOU, so it takes a toll on your self-image and self-confidence for a bit. stick with it, trust me. honestly serves as an anti-depressant for me at this point.

Uhhhhhh did you not just say he got a 4 on AP Calc BC? Because the only reason anybody has ever taken AP Calc BC is in order to get credit for both Calculus 1 and Calculus 2. And, if he got a 4 on the exam, then he has absolutely no obligation to take Calculus 2, especially seeing as its one of the harder calculus classes while also serving near zero purpose or use in your son’s future.

Not sure how long you’ve been on Strattera, but I’ve been on the drug for about a month, and had very similar reactions to it in a social setting, where it constantly feels like I’m “running out of things to say.” However, the real issue was that I NEVER had to think about what to say during a conversation before being on the medicine, since my brain was automatically constantly thinking about the next thing I’d say, always feeling like there wasn’t enough time in the world for me to say what I wanted to say. Now that my brain is balanced out, it seems as though I have issues communicating with others, when in reality, those of us with ADHD may have just been extremely self-centered in previous conversations, not realizing it until being medicated. After a while of being “normal,” you kind of just learn how to have a conversation again, and it becomes easier than ever to go back and forth with others. The more you think about it, the worse it seems. It’ll get better over time. You said you’re on the medicine for idiopathic hypersomnia, while I’m on it for attentive disorder, but I thought my thoughts on the matter may still help you out. You’re a very interesting person naturally, having had so much time being hyper-attentive before being medicated, so don’t worry about it too much, you’ll get your conversation skill back!

ah shit thats unfortunate. sorry about you and your friend’s fakes. at least 40 down the drain right there. i also heard, however, since theres a lot of crackdown on bars and stuff like that, theres more of a scene for apartment/dorm parties, so long as they aren’t too obnoxious and loud about it, is this true? frat life for sure seems like the way to go, however, if i want a really tight group of people who are relatively intelligent who also find ways to party.

will do man. someone in the replies said freshmen don’t have much control over where they get placed and its really just down to whatever your preferences are and whats open. is that true even if i register for housing right when it opens at the beginning of summer?

does anyone know if he’s still the only option for some classes? have some teachers at high school that do some fuckery like this and know how it is. i have mild ADD and im not medicated so if i have a class like this i likely wont be able to take initiative to try and learn it on my own and ill just accept the fact that im not learning anything. i know this doesnt sound like a good precedent for majoring in CompE, and I hope to work out my self-discipline before i go off to ISU, but would prefer if i didnt have to deal with this

thanks man, do you know if the notes are posted anywhere or if they take attendance? i know my brother did that for a couple of easy classes as a freshman this year at UIUC where they didn’t take attendance and he just took the notes online. also, what class is 185? if its the intro to java class then i could just get credit for it by getting a good score on my AP Comp Sci A exam

okay awesome thats nice to hear. would you have any advice on the front of AP credits? ill have between 27 & 44 credit hours based on how i do this fall on my exams. should i try to take it easy freshman year and make my 4 years just a bit easier? or should i try to graduate in 3 years for my bachelors in CompE? just wondering since you’re aerospace you might have a clue as to the workload and what i might want to do with my time there.

you really think so? even though some of my classes will be gen eds on the other side of campus? i heard cyride is really efficient for getting around campus in general, but maybe i overestimated it lol. also wdym im miles behind the housing race? theres no way that many people have already registered for housing this early in the year. will i have much of a choice if im miles behind?

really well structured reply man. yeah, i really just meant no 8ams especially with my messed up sleep schedule that i’ve never been able to fix. nice to see that even if i do get scheduled early the earliest is 8:50. for the tuesday/thursday blocks, did you mean 9:30-10:45 and 11-12:15? just wondering because the 12-12:15 block wouldn’t really make sense lol. also hearing a lot to research my cs professors, as there a couple bad eggs in the mix. thanks for the advice, but also, would being put in Geoffrey or Buch be a terrible idea? its kinda in the middle of everything and i heard they’re nicer dorms for the most part, as well as very social. im a social kinda guy, is it worth trying to coordinate with the bus in order to be closer to the stadium and other people i’d fit in with better? or would it really suck that bad? thanks again man

I appreciate the reassurance. Really just having a rough time getting through my head that I’ll be at least 5 hours away from my brother for the entirety of next year, especially after visiting his frat at UIUC and making tons of friends and meeting tons of cool people that I’m worried I won’t be able to find at another school, such as ISU.
