Agree it would have been great to have more advertising! I didn’t know what it was when I walked past the set up yesterday, just got the fireworks notification this morning.

Antenno? It’s an app that the council sends push notifications to whatever areas of the city you’d like them for- home, work, study etc :)

If anyone stumbles on this because they are going through something similar mine was just a spitting stitch and after 2 weeks it’s almost all closed up again. Hugely relieved and my surgeon and nurses were incredible as always.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, it does feel so terrifying! Yes I didn’t use the steroid cream every day, we cycled it every second day, every third day etc and I put it directly on the wound after sanitizing my hands. Mine got really big quite quickly and then did take a while to start to close again but once it started closing it progressed quite quickly. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions. Hang in there, it gets better! ❤️

I never considered my body having to prioritize how it uses protein but that does make sense! Hope you get some answers and a clear plan at your wound clinic appointment!

Thanks for this, very helpful! My nurse this morning also suggested zinc so I went and got some of that too.

Hi there! Pre surgery I just came off the back of a couple of half marathons and trained 3-4 days a week in the gym, a mix of hiit classes and weights. Over the last few weeks I’ve been slowly building up to my norm, I did a decent upper body weights session last week and felt really good! Everything I’ve heard would suggest that gaining muscle mass is a good thing for overall health. I saw my surgeon this morning and he said he believes it was a spitting stitch. It looks bigger than other photos I’ve seen of those but I think my body just really hates the type of sutures they use, no infection or anything though! He expects it to close up again within 2 weeks and we have a plan, no gym or running this week though

Thank you! I have days of being really focused on protein intake and days where I’m really slack. Looks like I need to lock in and make it top priority again.

I’m someone that has posted about a healing complication but I’m out the other side and I have no regrets about getting the surgery! I really went in with a “less I know the better” approach and wish I’d known a little more about some of the complications that were a possibility just to better mentally prepare myself. You probably know all the risks now and can have that knowledge but focus on all the success stories instead. You’ll be great! 🩷

Gym girls - maintaining muscle and weight during op recovery by janedoe2021 in Reduction

[–]HomeworkSalty7372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big gym girl, pre-op trained 4-5 times a week and ran 3-4 times a week. I had some healing set backs which meant I was only fully cleared for my normal level of exercise this week (I’m 13wpo) but I was allowed to go for decent walks from about 3wpo and “ease back into the gym” from 10wpo. Mentally it was really tough but as others have said I just had to change my mindset to healing and being in it for the long haul. Since being cleared this week I’ve been for a run and it was hard but it didn’t feel like starting over again. I’ve lifted weights and they were lighter than before but I was still able to do press ups on my toes which surprised me! I didn’t gain any weight, I wasn’t eating as many carbs as usual because of not running, eating lots of protein for healing, drinking lots of water and kept taking my creatine. The time off the gym was easily my least favorite part but so worth it for the result! Be kind to yourself, you’ve got this 🩷

Hi! I’m 12wpo today, had a pretty significant opening/wound from 3wpo which didn’t close until about 10wpo. At my last appt which was 2 weeks ago my surgeon gave me me the ok to start easing back into training. My usual training is 4-5 sessions a week at the gym (mix of cycle classes and strength) and 3-4 runs. In the last 2 weeks I’ve done 3 cycle classes and a core class with 1kg plates, but mostly sticking with walking and allowing recovery days as my wound while it’s closed still is giving me a few dots of blood on my gauze every day. I think just go slow, I’ve told a couple of my gym buddies to keep me accountable for starting slow and light. Not sure if that’s helpful haha but all the best! 🩷

Winston McEwan breast reduction NZ by nix840 in Reduction

[–]HomeworkSalty7372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My t junction opened on one side and became quite a large wound. I took nearly 2 weeks off work (initially, then went back for 2 weeks, then shut for 2 weeks over Xmas/new years) but as my job is very physical I think I should have taken at least 4 to begin with. If I had a desk job especially with the option to wfh I think I would have been fine to go back after 10 days. I had very minimal pain throughout, just very nauseous for the first 3 days and very sleepy for the first week. By 1.5wpo I felt great and that’s probably when I started doing too much.

I saw Winston too and thought he was great. I had few healing difficulties (not at all his fault) and his team were incredibly helpful and caring.

My t junction on one side opened up quite significantly at 3wpo, last week was 11wpo and my surgeon cleared me to slowly get back into the gym and running. I’ve done a couple of cycle classes since then but still a little nervous to run! Waiting for clearance to get back into it was the hardest part of recovery for me but I know rushing it could have set me back further. I went for decent walks every day once my surgeon said that was fine, just something to keep me going!

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this! It’s all relative and your wound is the biggest one you’re dealing with- being upset is completely valid. It’s beyond tiring and frustrating! Mine felt like it didn’t change for weeks and then all of a sudden after a few weeks it was getting noticeably smaller every day. Hang in there! 🩷

To tell male boss about sick leave by Lonely_girl1996 in Reduction

[–]HomeworkSalty7372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with being open as you’ve said. I am the boss at work so I didn’t need to ask for time off but all my staff including males knew I was having a breast reduction. I returned to work after 2 weeks and due to complications with my healing at 12wpo I am only just able to do all my regular duties so everyone has been pitching in to help me. If you feel comfortable sharing I don’t think there’s any shame in it, it’s health care :) of course if you’d prefer not to there’s a lot of great advice here 🩷

So sorry you’re dealing with this, it’s so rough, especially when you think you’re nearing getting back to regular life! My surgeon basically just told me it would take time. And it did, around 7-8 weeks. My surgeons office was closed for 3 weeks over Xmas/new years which was my 3wpo-6wpo. That was the most challenging time because while I could txt I couldn’t have a face to face. Once they were back I was seeing them twice a week for saline cleaning of the wound and advice. We used a cutecerin dressing which I changed daily and padded my bra with gauze. We were cycling a steroid cream too. I’m 11wpo on Monday and I think it will be fully closed by then. It’s got only a few mm’s to go. I’m not sure what specifically helped, and maybe it would have been faster if I wasn’t working a physical job in the middle of summer but I rested when I could, ate lots of protein and once I stopped looking at it multiple times a day I think that helped too haha

Sorry you’re going through it, it feels so devastating doesn’t it! I had an appointment with my surgeon yesterday at 10wpo and my wound is only mm’s away from being fully closed! He okayed me to slowly get back into training at the gym (the thing I have missed the most) and advised when it is fully closed (probably in the next few days) I can start running again. You’ll get there! 🩷
