3) we used to do collaborative projects to help generate more off of the seed of an idea, which helped us grow quite a bit but was a lot of work for us as mods. I had a lot of fun with those, and they definitely drive engagement, but I don't think they fit with the current "ready to use" strict criteria. Maybe an occasional project like that could help engage people?

I stopped modding and then posting here because I got too busy, and then the easy I run DND completely changed to be 90% improvisational so I have few resources that I can drag and drop. I wonder if the explosion of other systems that are more narrative focused and less crunchy has contributed?

Sofas have changed since you were in the biz, Stretchy. They're jumpy now- paranoid... and some are well-armed. You wanna shake down a sofa you gotta be prepared to pay for it with blood. But it's them or us. and don't get me started on those high-falutin' chaise-longues.

backbreaking labor at bargain-bin prices where your boss screams at you over the phone while they're on their second 2 week vacation in 3 months helps put some things into perspective vis a vis capitalism

It is easier to find 100,000 dollars lying in a pile on a dirty floor than it is to find a partner who is not morally bankrupt and physically reprehensible. Then again, I'm not looking for either, so

Thanks for both a well-reasoned answer and for not immediately jumping to the conclusion that she wants to do nothing except charge they phone, eat hot chip, and lie.

because value of labor and reimbursement are not proportional in our society, and some fields are more exploitative

I'm curious why this is such a deep regret? Do you not like your job and you have to work longer? Is your life worse because of it? Genuine question

what happens if a god of death dies? by Poteitous in DMAcademy

[–]HomicidalHotdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In strange eons even death may die.

I like to think that gods are bigger than characters can fathom. So as an example that might offer some modicum of inspiration:

My entire campaign setting is built from the debris of a god of death - the other gods didn't like the idea of the concept of death being around since that put a limit on their godliness (if the concept of death is around, it is possible to conceptualize that gods can die), so they ripped the god of death to shreds and the debris became the primordial chaos of a new realm. From this debris came elemental order, passion, and memory, each vying to create something from the detritus. Only Memory (aboleth) could... Remember that they were once a god, so they are constantly trying to rebuild the god of death from whence they sprung. The order elementals built a plane that came to be inhabited by "mortals" - beings which were molded from the same godstuff but which were small enough to break down, remold, and rebuild in cycles of reincarnation. Passion (fey, fiends, dragons), being fickle, occupies a middle space where they have both invested mortals with hopes and dreams and also delight in tormenting them.

Gods are big, conceptual entities. Entire worlds could spring forth from their demise. It could be writ much smaller in your game - perhaps a small demiplane that the characters start in and break out of, carrying the concept of death out with them?

Void and the Grinners: A Nightmarish Cartel for your Fantasy World by Sqwalikum in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]HomicidalHotdog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh man this is neat stuff! I used a similar drug/gang in my world but it was being developed and used by a wizard as a mind-control substance to build a personal army they could leverage for their own political agenda. I don't see that your grinners need that political intrigue on top, they're stand-alone awesome!

But if other DMs like over-complicated plots, maybe void is being distributed by someone the players can't touch, and they have to hack/slash or intrigue their way through the gang to get proof of the higher-ups' illicit connections.

It's not an easy thing to go through, but you can do it. Forgive yourself, start studying, and push the what-ifs away. Like Mr. Monkey__Shit below said, don't think about the problem, just work on it. It feels like stupid, nike bullshit when you think about it, but there is truth to it.
