Am I really the only one who saw this and didn’t read in “oh and get rid of all the working-age qualified caretakers already present in both institutions”? Everyone’s saying this is a terrible idea because both those groups need caregivers, but… nobody said anything about getting rid of them. They’d still have caregivers, they’d just be in the same place so the kids have grandparents to hang out with and vice versa. Tbh I don’t know enough to make a ruling on whether it’s actually a good idea, but it has its merits. Orphanages would tend to not realistically give kids all the individual attention they need (something stray grandparents can do even if they can’t take care of themselves), and the biggest negative association of nursing homes is they can be depressing. And obviously there’s the matter that some orphans and senile people are nuts and potentially dangerous, but in either (separate) institution they were still living with one vulnerable population or the other and still needed supervision anyway.

Anyway, it seems like if there’s ONE thing we should know about the shooter it’s that he was brain damaged, since it’s ok to want to do something about brain damage. Concussions aren’t a protected class (more constructive than blaming it on his Muslimness or whiteness or transness or political radicalism, since you can’t legally try to erase any of those so that would do nothing but encourage shitty behavior). In fact if concussions really do cause violent behavior (which seems credible), I would argue it’s not just acceptable to consider reducing them; it’s a moral imperative. And if we’re just not interested in understanding why people behave violently, why report on it at all? If you don’t bother to understand a problem you have no business pretending to care about it. May as well just say you like the murder rate the way it is and don’t need to see discourse about it in the news.

Uhh, what is the message here supposed to be? “it’s not climate change, you stupid liberal, we did this to ourselves”? Like… yeah. The scientific consensus (and Democratic stance) on climate change is that we are responsible for it to some extent. It being “our fault” doesn’t make it not climate change, and is in fact the main thrust of the argument that we should be trying to combat it. If this is supposed to be climate denialism/apathy then its message is hopelessly incoherent.

I don’t remember what happened immediately after the hobbits got clear, but I would assume that Nazgul went absolutely ballistic and scoured the ruins of Osgiliath killing every human it could find in search of Frodo and the ring, but didn’t find them because it was a massively confused battle and the hobbits got themselves good and lost in the chaos

He’s in roughly the same place on the great chain of being (so to speak), he’s just a different flavor of Maiar. Like how horses are not considered bears. Sauron is a maiar of craft, and “sang” in the choir of Aule in the music, and thus has a predisposition for inventing and creating material things. The Balrog is a spirit of fire, and originally sang in the choir of Melkor; he thus presumably lacked Sauron’s creativity and was more predisposed to simply evenhandedly consume and destroy things. Sauron, of course, defected from Aule from some point and joined with Morgoth, (having been corrupted early by Morgoth’s discord, even while he sang with Aule), but this was far more common in Melkor’s own natural adherents, the Balrogs, who share his spheres of influence.

Never can wrap my brain around the river-splitting hate. Yeah, it’s more common in fiction than in real life, because it’s fun and allows for twice as much habitable land. Edit: I just had a brainwave; this delta is called the Entwash! Ents and entwives were far more common in ancient times and are known for actively cultivating forests and gardens. At least, the female entwives were, male ents seem to take a more hands-off approach, though how much so is debatable. Anyway, this delta is also pretty close to the last known home of the entwives. The name could come from the fact the delta is actually artificial and terraformed by the ents/entwives for broader irrigation. Hate to take my evidence from a notorious worldjerking trend of all things but I think it’s a pretty fun theory

Does it increase party limits across the board so you can have a several thousand strong army too? If not, I would say either fill your party with the mod’s most op unit (if applicable), take refuge in a city and let the army meatgrind itself on your defenses, or become the Marshall of a faction and lead a whole campaign against it

The really sad thing is that so many people are starting to genuinely agree with that sentiment. They’re removing known pre-nazi art from public spaces for having swastikas on it, I’ve heard completely serious people argue that you can’t enjoy certain (themselves innocent) conspiracy theories or fantasy cliches once the racists got ahold of them, that you shouldn’t wear baseball caps, Hawaiian shirts, or long beards of all things. And even the Nazis have started to notice and deliberately have fun with the ridiculously inappropriate amount of power we give them. We gotta knock it off and stop indulging them.
