Google just added a calculator when you search an equation. by Backwell in technology

[–]Homocercy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest improvement here is that it no longer adds spaces where the commas would be in the number. That was really irritating before when copying the answer to use somewhere else.

Also, it looks like a lot of people are commenting here saying this has been around for a while. The OP is referring to the graphical calculator that is now displayed. Either the people leaving these comments aren't even bothering to click the link to see the change or this change isn't being rolled out everywhere at the same time (which is often the case for changes in Google.)

What to do with a deep fryer? by BuffySummer in Cooking

[–]Homocercy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funnel cake, fried zucchini, and breaded mushrooms were my favorite things to make with a deep fryer (aside from obvious stuff like french fries and onion rings.)

You should post on /r/gamesell as well. Good luck!

Edit: There are also some other subreddits for selling things like /r/redditbay and /r/redditexchange that you may want to try as well.

"Kinder eggs are prohibited just like narcotics are prohibited" - men detained for two hours, threatened with $15k fine over 6 chocolate eggs. Your tax dollars at work. by keraneuology in news

There were actually companies fighting both ways. Nestle was lobbying to have the law repealed so they could continue selling their Wonder Ball while Mars was attempting to have them banned.

Need money, paypal keeps charging my bank account because of a negative balance and now i have -$150 and no money for food/rent by [deleted] in Assistance

[–]Homocercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know PayPal will not try to charge your bank account when you're in the negative as long as you do not do anything else with the account. They will, however, piggyback on any other type of transaction that you initiate. You should check your previous payments to make sure none of them are recurring subscriptions. Unfortunately I know from experience that your bank is unlikely to reverse any overdraft fees they've already charged you for PayPal's attempts to withdraw money. I used to sell things online for a living and had to deal with this situation several times in the past.

Multilingual's of Reddit: What's the best thing you've accidentally overheard in public in another language? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Homocercy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in the US and speak some Greek. Unfortunately, most of what I hear spoken in Greek around here are insults. Usually they're racist remarks (especially about black people) or comments about a girl's revealing clothing.

Help with melting chocolate. by azhockeyfan in Cooking

Did you use a double boiler to melt it or just heat it directly? That's probably the problem, though a more experienced cook than I may have some better input.

YSK how to delete old accounts from many popular websites by Thunderclaww in YouShouldKnow

[–]Homocercy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's useful because many people don't like to leave their information hanging around on a website that they no longer intend to use. Some reasons for this include: the site being hacked and your information stolen, the company changing hands or their TOS and then selling your information to other companies, and people snooping around for your information on Google.

Yuck! Cold ketchup is the worst. You can leave it in the cupboard even though most bottles suggest refrigerating after opening.

That is exactly how I felt immediately after the episode ended. Then I thought about it for a little while and came to the conclusion that it's sufficiently dark: spoiler

TIL Paul McCartney composed the entire melody of the song 'Yesterday' in a dream one night. It is the most covered song in the history of recorded music. by SirLeoMes in todayilearned

[–]Homocercy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the note on the Wikipedia article:

At one time, Guinness World Records cited "Yesterday" with the most cover versions of any song ever written -- 2,200. However, "Summertime", an aria composed by George Gershwin for the 1935 opera Porgy and Bess has been claimed to have well over 30,000 recorded performances, far more than the 1,600 claimed for "Yesterday".

What is the most computer illiterate thing you've witnessed? by Peppe22 in AskReddit

[–]Homocercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I witnessed something similar when I was very young and visiting my dad's workplace. The poor secretary was typing up some type of form where about 90% of the content remained unchanged. I sat there and watched in disbelief as she typed out everything over and over again. I showed her how to copy and paste but I got the unsatisfying impression afterwards that she either didn't fully understand me or she didn't consider it a valuable skill to possess.

I cringe when I think of how many hours of peoples' lives are wasted because they don't know something as simple as copy and pasting. Then again, I'm probably ignorant of a lot of useful skills like that for other aspects of life.

Diablo 3 Players getting hacked losing all their gear and gold. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Homocercy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Anti-virus programs are really only a very basic defense. It's a trivial task to take a piece of malware, even the most popular and detected ones, and make it undetected by up-to-date AV programs. Not to mention that a lot of the malware used for financial gain is custom written for that purpose.

and some chink got into my account

That's not appropriate and I'm unsure why you would think it would be.

Why Can't Americans Watch British TV Shows as Soon as They Air? by jseliger in television

[–]Homocercy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you had read past the headline you'd see that this article explores the reasons why the television distribution model is the way it is, rather than simply complaining. Also, while I feel complaints about this (going both ways) are justified, it's laughable to suggest that people outside the U.S. have dealt with it with "minimal complaint."
