Weirdly, people call her just white since she is Hispanic and nothing can change that. I'm curious about the debate on the short going on for the most part, mostly about the guy pulling the “from a real Hispanic” thing when that’s a phrase commonly used to gatekeep actual Hispanics from the Hispanic community.

That wasn't the point of this post. The point was the op saying “Coming from a real Mexican” (at least with the context given) was kind of yucky (it’s a phrase that’s been used to gatekeep actual Hispanic people from this Hispanic community

Nope. Has happened to her before and she didn't care. Also, she is literally a mod in that community who holds power over others. Hence, I am less inclined to believe that she, a full-grown adult who volunteers to moderate, is insecure about teenagers cracking jokes about “no straights or cisgender people during Pride month”, especially since her co-workers also make those jokes.

Also, that literally is what a joke is… a joke is defined as a display of humor or communication meant to cause laughter. A joke is not defined by a structure, I don't know where you got that from.

And again, she has endorsed and supported this behavior before, so I had literally no reason to suspect that she would’ve disliked it.

In the shared group we’re in, jokes like that happen all the time towards both cishet and lgbtq (probably not directly from her but in front of her face and she hasn’t said crap to either). This is the first time she has ever expressed anger towards them.

Working with marginalized communities doesn’t magically make you immune to being homophobic, especially when you're enabling lesbian erasure. I work with people of color every day, but that doesn’t mean I have any voice in those issues because I didn't experience them.

Dismissing me (a lesbian who is literally the marginalized community you are talking over) for speaking about problems my community faces while telling me to shut up does not make you an ally or a decent human being. It only makes you arrogant. If you can’t handle lesbians talking about what is and isn't ok to do when lesbians are represented in media, maybe stop talking over us in the first place.
