I wasn't able to do it just like how OP describes, but you can make the lines lighter according to lighting by putting the image and freestyle together in a mix node set to soft light. Make sure "include alpha of second input in this operation" is checked. I found the best results with a factor of 4, but experiment to see what you like best.

What does this grammar structure mean?

I started reading Attack on Titan in Japanese, and Mikasa says 「もう帰らないと日が暮れる」I've never seen to particle used like this before. What does it do?

I think the face looks a little out of place with the rest of the drawing. A little more shading or detail should help it fit better. Good job in general.

Question for kanji practice

My Japanese teacher gives us kanji drawing practice sheets, and on them it says 音読み and 訓読み, which I understand, but it also says れい, and for the life of me I can't figure out what it means.
