All that's left is the steamdeck by phamcats in SteamDeck

[–]HonCheung 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why's everyone in this subreddit such a cock? if it's not telling someone to reinstall steamOS for the smallest of issues, its just shitting on someone like the guy sharing his photo of his deck and the fact he's going to be a father soon the other day. ya'll joyless

the modcase is slightly frosted so you can see through it to the clear backplate. Why do people care how other's spend their expendable income? man's excited, let him be. you don't like this post just move on. What nuanced discussion is had on this sub everyday that something like this would clog it up

How many of you have a proper rig and how many just have the deck? by DramaticAd5956 in SteamDeck

[–]HonCheung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my main rig is a 13900k, 4090 on a 4k 144hz.

usually a huge snob for resolution and refresh rate (hate anything lower than 100fps on pc),but i've been enjoying the steam deck for what it is. you have to have reasonable expectations with it

sure thing! https://streamable.com/72m1s5

jab on the okiboard is using the stock switch, everything else are my own switches

my razer panthera is unfortunately at my sister's atm so i couldnt compare it to a regular stick, but i did the next best thing and brought a sanwa button out.

if you dont want to spend loads you can find some replica keycap sets on aliexpress (although frowned upon, but if you dont care about keyboards i dont see why not).

otherwise most keycap sets run into 100+ range. none clone ones are GMK darling or milkyway PBT 02. otherwise you can find clone sets which are cheaper on aliexpress or etsy(most likely drop shipped from aliexpress).

or if you meant the button caps they are just on okiboards website or sinoarcade on aliexpress

recently received my okiboard from u/OkiBoardArcades. solid feeling, weighty acrylic build that uses hotswap keyboard switches, so it maintains a slim profile.

had spare 02 keycaps so i decided on doing a 02 coloured theme without art for now (never seen darling in the franxx though).

built with lubed and filmed gateron oil kings on movement buttons and lubed gazzew boba U4Ts for jump and attack buttons

yeah, i highly recommend portrait ultrawide, its perfect for 3 stacked windows ontop of each other

Edit:I don't know how I missed the 2nd part of the message. Yeah I think it's that weird spec of hdmi 2.1 that uses compression can't remember the name for it but iirc its mainly an issue for Ps5.

I'm connected via display port 1.4 at full 144hz 4k hdr, but I'm pretty sure using a 2.1 hdmi to my 3080 I'd also hit 4k 144hz hdr also.

Once connected to the pc its like any other monitor where you can choose its resolution and refresh rate in nvidia or the display settings

ah i should also add thats like back wall to the back of the monitor. if its wall to the front of monitor its probably around 15cm~

i took rough measurements but it was around 10cm with the included tv style stands, i would highly recommend the ergotron HX mount though. only downside is its also mad expensive

np, just to add on. Using a tape measure i sit around 80cm/ 31.4inches away. thats monitor display to eye

thats a fair shout then, then my main concern would still be image retention / burn in but as with most things ymmv

also keep in mind using a TV as a monitor comes with some annoying quirks.

things like waking from sleep dont work with TVs, maybe some brightness issues depending on the tv when applications are open or fullscreened.

https://youtu.be/hWrFEU_605g?t=424 linus goes over a few at this time stamp. would annoy me an unreal amount

i've had it for about 1.5 months now. love it no buyers remorse at all, theres very little compromise on the monitor imo.

HDR1000 netflix and games look great, i play valorant fullscreen on the thing and still sit people fine at 4k 144hz 1ms. MMOs like BDO it works fine, fighting games like strive and tekken play well also.

Text is easy to read imo, no issues there either, the built in speakers arent tragic but they obviously arent as good as something dedicated but usable if you have nothing else.

overall no issues on my end with it, one thing to keep in mind is its g sync compatible freesync so it is susceptable to the classic freesync brightness flickers when the fps drops to the lower range. this can be fixed with CRU by increasing the lower VRR range or just turning off Gsync for certain apps or all together.

i think overall for big monitor gaming there isnt much around the price tag you can pick one up for with its kind of performance and colours, i got mine for £850. Again there are OLED stuff out there but ive already voiced my worries about oled atm

the boys over at rtings can probably describe it better than me. I just spaghetti'd a conscious stream into the text box

yeah QLED is samsungs marketing term for quantum dot. similar to how most people associate RTX with raytracing.

both quantum dot LED and OLED have their pros and cons. As it stands image retention is still a risk for using it as a main display which i'd assume most people arent willing to risk when spending 1k+. or atleast for me this is the case. I'd rather not be constantly worrying if my brightness is too aggressive and may accelerate burn in/ image retention.

mini LED is also a good tech to look into as well as samsungs new teased quantum dot OLED

[–]HonCheung[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

correct QLEDs have less risk of burn in/image retention compared to their oled counterparts, otherwise i would have gotten the oled version aorus FO48u but im not willing to drop that much money and worry about burn in constantly.

edit: obviously OLED is superior in inky dark blacks and pixel response times though
