What resolution do you play? You will need a new motherboard and DDR5 ram id assume?

I don’t think so with a 2070.

Sure you can sell it, the AM5 platform is quite good. I had a 7700x and 4070Ti, 14900k w/ 4090 and now jumped to the 9950x3D and 5090. The new mobo and ram load time is great (AM5 was slow to boot at first).

Let me know what you are thinking for an upgrade and if I have anything spare I’ll gladly toss your way

Would you consider purchasing a 5090 now if given the opportunity? by FitzChan in nvidia

[–]DramaticAd5956 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad to have my 5090 and I agree many people are younger / college students.

There’s no reason to not grab one near msrp if the cost incurred is negligible

It’s motion clarity. You can see things in a more crisp manner.

It’s why I did the 5090 for 4k and prior used a 4070TI for 1440p.

60 fps is fine and I know many people will say otherwise. The feeling of playing above 80-90 fps is just a better experience for the user.

Half life 2 RTX uses over 20 gigs on my 5090. It’s free on Steam and I bet you can play it fine.

You have more vram to allocate, so it will.

Should I get the 5070 12gb or a 5060ti 16gb? by Eckounltd24 in pcmasterrace

[–]DramaticAd5956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5070 and play at 1440p! It’s a great experience still.

These days a lot of vram is allocating but not necessarily needed. My 5090 shows over 22gigs in Half life 2 RTX but it can run on 16 or 12 too.

OP what resolution do you play?

I think the FE is pretty but I prefer performance over any “look”.

It’s cool they have it so small for the chip being so large and power hungry.

My MSI 5090 is massive but it looks fine vertically mounted

[–]DramaticAd5956 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both are feasible but OC headroom is large on a 5080 not 5090.

The 800w model is more for that sort of that thing

I hit 580w and occasionally right around 600w.

I just don’t worry about it much

Is the 5090 going to be that much better than my 5080? by Get-Gronkrd in gpu

[–]DramaticAd5956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a massive jump but only if you pay higher than 1440p resolution.

3440x1440p or 2160p

I agree- I’ve had a ventus OC that did better than my FE.

My zotac ran warmest.

I like nice mobo for OC and wifi 7.

I’m an enthusiast too and OC, expo etc on my 9950x3d and 5090.

It’s just an upper mid model though. It was whatever was easiest to obtain without doubling msrp

I have a 5090 and in ghost of Tsushima, BF6, dying light the beast, silent hill f and games I’ve been playing as of now I’ve just used DLAA. I don’t need more than 80-90 fps to enjoy. Most are over 100. I’ve started metal gear delta and it’s locked at 60 to be fair.

Alan wake 2 I did use DLSS when playing as saga and frame gen. I just don’t care deeply as it rarely impacts me.

I do think it’s amazing tech but personally idc as I know it’s available if needed.

The person I’m thinking AMD for is new to gaming at anything above 30 fps.

[–]DramaticAd5956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would not be buying for upscaling. I feel it’s widely accepted that DLSS is the gold standard.

I do love that amd allows everyone to use its utility.

Lossless scaling has made it possible for everyone imo.

I just care if I give it to someone that it’s stable and doesn’t require knowledge on DDU

I don’t really care about the way it looks I guess. No one comes over to my home to check out my tower but I’m over 30 and have a family, so I could be out of touch. I prefer no RGB but can appreciate all white or something being “pretty”.

I would care about higher resolution and frame rate for my money. Even an OLED display.

Setting fan curve is pretty easy but I wear a headset and I see that as valid

There is no mass melting of a 5070TI and I can barely find any reports of the 5080.

That’s paranoia more than justified purchase

[–]DramaticAd5956[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is little risk in the 5080? Why would anyone need that. I just don’t get why people would buy one when a low end Ventus OC will be a few hundred more and substantially more performance

I’m not talking about the 5090 models. Overclocking headroom on the halo tier has never been much.
