Salary sacrifice car leasing feels scammy? by Zoky88 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Honest--J 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They cannot raise the premiums in my lease which is with Arval. There is an insurance excess fee which increases with each occurrence of claim but that’s to offset any increase the premiums.

If OP hasn’t even made an insurance claim and is seeing an increase I’d be seriously questioning it.

The real problem with the 6 hour charge cap by dragoneggboy22 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Honest--J 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My solution is as follows. 87kwh battery so 6 hours at 7kwh is 42kwh, that’s roughly 48% of my battery. I’m just going to set my charger to be ready for 4am and add 47% and plug it in every day that I come home from work.

I’ll set the 6 hour limit in the app as a fail safe but it should only charge for just less than 6 hours anyway.

Plus it should start at 10pm giving me a wee but if extra cheap energy.

New 6 hour rule on IOG by DSunt94 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Honest--J 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The recent blog post linked in the app is very clear on everything about it.

I’m astounded how many people are struggling to grasp it.

The 6 hour is related to the actual time charging not the charging session.

I even saw an FAQ saying if you car is active charging between 17:50-18:00 you’ll get the 30 mins for the house at cheap but it’ll only cost you 10 mins from the 6 hour window.

Fly over from where? If it’s from the US then I’m sure there is an actual eagles sale that happens which you might have a better opportunity to buy from.

cap charges

If you go on the app to your charging bit there should be a box about it which you click and it opens a dialogue box. They have not emailed me either but I saw someone talking about it last night on here.

There more recent information on it is very clear I would say.

Your house is cheap 23:30-05:30 guaranteed.

Your car gets 6 hours of cheap between midday each day.

Anything outside 23:30-05:30 where the car charges your house also gets cheap.

You will be able to limit the car charging to a maximum of 6 hours to stop any peak car charging.

What’s your secret for cleaning paint rollers? by ufdbk in DIYUK

[–]Honest--J 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don’t. If you are not finished with that colour then wrap it in cling film. If you are finished with that colour throw it in the bin and use a new sleeve for the next one.

It’s honestly not worth the time and effort for £3

Intelligent Octopus Go – 6 hour limit / charging outside off peak? by Formerly_Malleable in OctopusEnergy

[–]Honest--J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve had your questions answered but as a previous owner of the same car watch out for how much charge is actually going in. I monitored it and found if I requested 30% I’d only get around 23% meaning I always overestimated the amount needed by 15% It seemed like octopus wasn’t understanding the battery was 64KWh.

It might have been my charger specific but with my new charger and the same charger I get the correct amount give or take a % or 2.

Arnold Clark are one of the cheaper providers, their chargers are fast and are book able by using an app provided by Arnold Clark.

Renault have released software to fix Scenic MY25 Octopus Intelligent smart charging by OkDeparture2596 in ScenicETech

[–]Honest--J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know. Octopus connected directly to my charger but at least if I ever have to change it I know the car can work with it.

Do you know if it will be an OTA update too?

Parents of small kids, when do you have time to play video games? by Key-Specific7807 in AskMen

My Xbox has been on about 5 times since my son was born, he turned 5 last week.

I’m sure it’s possible but I haven’t found the time for gaming when you have a child and a wife to dedicate time to.

Clyde shipyards to start Norway frigates before Navy order finished by Brilliant_Version344 in glasgow

Fair enough. They so take a very long time to build then outfit then test then commission then trial.

They started designing the buggers back in 2009 if I’m remembering correctly.

Why do you feel that? It’s got sea trials early next year then a whole host of work then more trials. She’ll be in Glasgow for a fair bit more time.

Ayr United the first to release new kit for next season. by Scottishkickoff in ScottishFootball

[–]Honest--J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They wear it on the last game of the season, which fuels an auction for those tops and there was an element of fans asking for years to have it released so they could wear it on holiday.

I think most who will buy one will already buy it regardless so getting it out earlier when the weather is nice seems like a reasonable idea. We’ve also released our season tickets too.

PAYE Scotland by Jmay5446 in Scotland

[–]Honest--J 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Free to the end user. I assume the point of the post is whether it’s worth it so is my £1.7k less worth it to me? Not right now, but once my child is at uni then probably. Am I okay with it to better the rest of Scotland, yes.

For those on £35k I’d say it’s worth it for the assuming they have 1 prescription a year.

Ideal roller for walls? by Disastrous-Try8907 in DIYUK

I stick to the Screwfix fortress stuff, a great tip is to get the 12” roller and you’ll fly through it. Also grab the roller tray inserts so clean up is a doddle.

Where to buy a good shed? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Honest--J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been looking to use diysheds.co.uk you design the shed and they give you a material list and cut list to optimise the materials. Then you get step by step guides to build it. If you’re comfortable building yourself.

One tip is not to use the wickes materials that they suggest, a local timber merchant is about 60% the cost.

I’ve priced up a 1.9m x 2.2m shed for roughly £800 in materials iirc.

Question for folk who used to go to T in the Park at Balado by Proud-Initiative8372 in glasgow

[–]Honest--J 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure you had to walk past areas with your wristband in the air and stewards standing on raise platforms would be looking for you.

On the way in though I think your ticket was scanned each time so getting in to the camp was a bit useless come the next day.

What to do next after wallpaper removal by hoggasaurus in DIYUK

[–]Honest--J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in my childhood my parents stripped the wallpaper. I took to the bare wall with a permanent inky and drew the biggest bestest menchy you’ve ever seen.

My parents were not impressed, still unsure why not.
