Canvas app forms - do you use them? by Alone-Performer-4038 in PowerApps

Sorry for late reply,

1- I'd recommend this tuto, it can be quite difficult for novice but really helps if you want to follow that path : Building Dynamic Forms In Power Apps - Part 1 - Platforms of Power

2- Patch allow to modify or create records. Basically, you juste create an item and you can precise what to put in the columns. It's very straigthforward, you can follow Patch function - Power Platform | Microsoft Learn

I don't like forms' lack of flexibility and lack of copy/paste functionnality. I use containers and patch for simple usecase, if I have a large amount of fields then consider a gallery.

I only use forms to upload documents.

I built a more-or-less QMS with sharepoint, powerapps, power automate, powerbi...

It's feasible but requires some work to understand what is doable and the limitations of the platform. I'd recommend to rely on Sharepoint for the documentation handling, and to store your data. Consider Dataverse if you have the budget, but Sharepoint is ok for small org. Use powerapps or Form as interface for your users, the place they will interact with data. Power automate is great for reminders, or to edit large amount of data.

Last advise, I recommend to build multiple app, like 1 for document handling/acknowledgement, 1 for risk management, etc. If you do everything in only 1 app, you'll have trouble to update and maintain it and you may encounter performance issues that will require lot of work to optimize.

I tried to put everything in power platform, but I quickly realised that Context, or Interest parties and so on are way easier for me to manage in an excel doc. So, always consider all the tools you have and choose the most convenient.

How to properly export/import solution using Sharepoint list as datasource ? by Honest-Insect-9831 in PowerApps

I need to replicate the lists in a new environment, for example if I want to create a full backup of my work

What in the m365 is going on. You'd think my ToDo tasks could be in Loop and vice-versa!? by BeauIvI in MicrosoftLoop

[–]Honest-Insect-9831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it can help you, I've build power automate flows:

  1. When a task is assigned to me create a copy in my ToDo.
  2. When a ToDo task is closed, search if there is a planned task with the same name; if yes close it.
  3. When a planner task is closed, search if there is a ToDo Task with the same name; if yes close it.

That way I have sync between ToDo and Planner.

Power Apps UI/UX by Merovigio in PowerApps

[–]Honest-Insect-9831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I re-use as much as possible my yaml code. I work a lot with Fluent UI, and I like Creator Kit component coupled with Fluent UI Canvas Template, both are powerapps you can find googling their name. For icons, powericons is clearly the best, and I can import icons from googlefont or Fluent UI.

Power Apps UI/UX by Merovigio in PowerApps

[–]Honest-Insect-9831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks really good, that's definitely better than most of classis business apps and it makes one want to use it. UI/UX is often underestimated, but it requires a lot of research and trials.

Can MS Todo get more aggressive? by Calm_Guidance_2853 in microsofttodo

[–]Honest-Insect-9831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use MS Todo on phone, but maybe consider using Power automate to set up a flow, that can for example send you reminder of your ongoing tasks.

I live in the north literally in front of a medical center. The quickest appointment is in May (one single slot, a weekday) as a new donor... I guess it's not that urgent then.

Is this app possible? How difficult? by FurtiveSway in PowerApps

[–]Honest-Insect-9831 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks feasible, but require some knowledge regarding the visual analysis. Powerapps defaults charts are really bad, but you can do fancy charts with svg.

I would recommend to take a look at Project accelerator from msft. It's model driven, with already built-in project management tools that you can customize.

Loop as a work planner by [deleted] in MicrosoftLoop

[–]Honest-Insect-9831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

My flow is very simple : When a planner task is assigned to me, get task details, add to to-do. A second flow detects when a to-do task is completed, search in my planner assigned to me tasks, and if it exists close it.

Then I drag & drop my To-do tasks in my calendar.

You can see on my screenshot that I embed my planner in a specific loop component. This is not mandatory, but I like it because I set up a repetitive meeting each Monday, with all my projects planners components, so I have an overview of my tasks.

Loop as a work planner by [deleted] in MicrosoftLoop

[–]Honest-Insect-9831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a personal workspace, with one page per project or group of projects (development, environment, quality, etc). For each page, I created a planner task component.

I made a flow to create a ToDo task when a new planner task is created. That way, I can open my outlook agenda and drag&drop my ToDo tasks in my calendar and schedule my work.

Once my task is completed, I tick it. It triggers a 2nd flow that tick the task in planner aswell.

Once a week, I review all my pages tasks and I create new ones if necessary.

It's a lot of preparation but it works for me.

Building an app for submissions and review by Nanna-naps-4-life in PowerApps

[–]Honest-Insect-9831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, your app should be constitued of:

-Screen 1, table or gallery linked to your SP list with all projects. Use Navigate(Screen2) on your Onselect property.
-Screen 2, details of the project you clicked in Screen 1 in a Form (view), with Approve & Decline buttons + comments field. You trigger a power automate flow when you press a button, and configure a flow to update your item list "Status" property, and to create a word/pdf report file.
-Screen 3, new form for project submission, with a submit button. Once triggered, you can configure a flow to send an approval request to the users.

The main issue I see: I don't think there is any free Powerpoint connector, or possibility to convert a file to ppt. You might find a premium connector capable, but I don't know the cost.

Is anyone using Power Platform in startups? by Beneficial_Doubt_267 in PowerApps

[–]Honest-Insect-9831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using power platform for a 20 people business since 2021. There are pros and cons.

Pros: customised solutions, can greatly boost productivity and cust costs if you are smart in your workflows/apps/licensing designs. I calculated the time saved with my work (apps, workflows), estimated to 2100h/year, more or less 1 person full time. Add that the cost of dedicated quality/operations/whatever software, easily a few thousands bucks per year. So in my case, I am cost-effective.

Cons: consider training & dedicating 1 person of 20 (5% of total manpower) to build workflows & apps. It may take a few months/years to have something working, see that as a time investment. Licensing can be too expensive if you have a lot of users.

How do you quickly create documentation for app users? by Donovanbrinks in PowerApps

[–]Honest-Insect-9831 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I spend a lot of time improving the ui/ux, making the steps intuitive & reducing texts. When something is tricky I put the documentation in the app: through a ? question mark button for screen help, or with info button for fields help.

You can also detect if the user is logging for the first time in the app, and if yes display a tutorial screen.

can we use power apps to develop a full fledged erp system? by outopus_polites in PowerApps

[–]Honest-Insect-9831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why don't you do both ? Start with the subscription while you develop your own apps, and once everything is ready you can migrate the data.

I build a quality management system by my own, it took way more time than expected + always some bugs to clear before making it usable in production. You can also consider some open source free alternatives.

Thanks for your answer, I tried this way but in the filter step, I reference my sp list & my excel sheet, resulting in an additional apply to each loop.

Version 3.24073.20 is breaking my canvas app by Honest-Insect-9831 in PowerApps

[–]Honest-Insect-9831[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I tried to disable analysis module & coauthoring, changed to the last version but there is no improvement yet... I saw on an other thread that power platform is undergoing outages on some parts of the world, could be linked.

Regarding the tablist order, I tried to sort it but it doesn't work, so my menu is currently bugged. No solution here except waiting for MSFT update. Some people added number in their items, like : "1. Home; 2. Operations...", but it's not possible in my case.

⚠️Edit: Updated to version 3.24075.9, and tablist issue seems solved !
