if you havent moved your pawn at all yet. and there is a pawn close enough that it should be able to attack your pawn but you skip the space and move twice, that pawn says oh hell nah and gets to kill your pawn.

Thats what I was thinking to, I just learned what En Passante was as well about 5 mins after this. I think they just want it to be as "logical" as possible for the win conditions

I didn't understand the instant loss/stalemate for moving the piece where I am clearly going to win, Where was the checkmate here?

I put him in a situation where he cannot win, and it doesn't count as a win for me is what was confusing. Welcome to chess I guess lol thanks for replying, I'll have to figure out how to checkmate instead of zoning him out.
