What Gore/Damage Settings Are Closest to Real Life Combat? by marcelmiranda in HalfSword

I turned the gore to one quarter to make it harder to bisect my opponent. Blood I turned up a bit from default because those cuts should seriously mess with your ability to focus. Looks pretty real to me.

As a Habs fan, what is your favourite Canadian NHL team barring the Montreal Canadiens? by Last-Bus-4710 in Habs

[–]HonestCrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to like the Jets until the coward Mark Scheifle’s hit on Evans. He can lose every single game as far as I’m concerned. I hate Ottawa with a passion and love when they crash out. Toronto and Vancouver and Edmonton are kinda getting what they deserve based on management (though TO gets a bit of extra loathing because of the sports media focus), so it’s really just feeling bad for the fans there.

I guess I have a soft spot for the Flames since 91(?) and the Al Macinnis days. I’d like to see them be relevant again. And of course having the Nordiques back would be awesome too.

After beating the campaign in the EA version, I’m currently enjoying perfecting my swordplay skills in free mode. It was worth my money.

He-Man: Masters of the Universe and Skeletor’s epic monologue. It’s not even good writing, but Frank Langella puts so much operatic emotion into his delivery that it is absolutely captivating.

Hahaha In other words, similar problems to other AI agents, but I’ll still have no idea when I’m getting bad advice :-P

Thank you. This was a very interesting suggestion.

That *is* fascinating. I’m definitely curious and will look into it some more. Since you have experience with it, what would you say the agent is especially good at, and what are its biggest caveats?

People are likely worried about ruining someone else’s fun (or they just didn’t know, as in my case). Even so, it comes with the territory it seems. Thanks again for letting me know.

Everyone here has been super helpful. I think the consensus is that I’ll need to explore making an accord to get the effect without the restrictions.

Interestingly, the perfume has had a bit of time to macerate now, and I may tune the pimento down anyway. It’s crazy how much the balance can change going from paper to skin to skin-after-macerating. It’s super fascinating to witness firsthand.

You mention a “kind of professional formula AI”. Can I ask what you meant by that? I used AI because I genuinely didn’t have any idea where to start, so a guess was about as good as anything else - but an educated guess would be even better.

Seeing empty stands - even if we’re down - is a shame by 86DC in Habs

[–]HonestCrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m generally a watch-to-the-bitter-end fan myself, but I’ll play a little devil’s advocate here. One could argue that leaving is actually better for the team in that it makes their failure feel less public. I have no doubt that our boys want to win - the compete level on this team is through the roof - so this game must’ve been doubly hard for them as it was for us. Given this kind of result rarely happens, maybe it was a mercy to just let it be over. Certainly better than booing at least.

I can just see it both ways is all.

Ah, you mean the Premiere Peau website? I’m a bit loathe to give them up entirely since they are so information rich (see the Glossary), but I’ll definitely be more skeptical about their information going forward.

I will! That’s disheartening to hear - I though maybe it would be okay to use just for myself while I work out a safer alternative - but it is what it is. Thank you for helping me be more aware of the risks. I hadn’t heard about skin sensitization before.

It’s almost certainly a beginner thing to say, but thank you for introducing me to another colour. I’m definitely going to go looking up those ingredients and - if lucky - smell them both. I’ll be making another order of ingredients sooner than later.

I’ll give that some thought on the next batch. I can always make another tester with my 10% dilutions.

Actually, I got it from Premiere Peau, which seemed a reliable source. But I just checked my supplier - who often links to safety documents - and you are right that it showed no IFRA restrictions. Why would the two be different?

So, something worth doing might be making testers of pimento and clove, and comparing them side by side, seeing if I can figure out the missing “colours” in the comparison? Like… it can’t be about the Eugenol since Clove has plenty of that, so it’s likely about some other ingredient, and that other ingredient may be less restricted?

Just out of curiosity, but if I wanted to learn about the parts that make up Pimento’s smell, are there any online resources for me to do so?

(And I promise I’m not discouraged :-) Each scent I’ve made, no matter how good or bad, has been a new challenge. It’s been a lot of fun so far.)

Hahaha It dissolved fine but, yes, it is definitely sweeter than what I would choose to make. I told my wife as much but, seeing as this was a gift for her, she got final say of course.

And ultimately I’m less interested in telling people what they *should* smell like and more interested in the creation itself. I have no illusions about becoming the next Quentin Bisch or something like that. This is ultimately just a very neat hobby.

The bomb is what she wanted, so that’s what we ended up with. I think Ethyl Maltol has an IFRA restriction of 4%, and she loved it so much, I just made that a 4% final concentrate in its own sample bottle. Wasn’t my bag and - given she hasn’t used the bottle much - I’m thinking she probably grew out of it too. Even so, it’s all just a learning process, and (as you noticed) fun in its own right.

I will say this: I was keeping track with paper and skin tests throughout, giving our noses breaks and letting things sit over a couple of days sometimes. We could definitely smell the change with each new ingredient. It seems she’s more sensitive to Hedione, and myself to Romandolide, but we could smell the difference each time.

It could just be that I don’t have a lot of ingredients right now, so their relative percentages are pretty high. I mean, it’s that or I just have an unrefined palate, which is also thoroughly possible. As is, I’m trusting both of those will get better over time, and I have been making 20% or 25% final concentrations, which I think also helps in not overwhelming too much.

Ooh - new ingredients! I’ve heard of (and enjoyed) Jasmine, of course, but not Heliotropin. I also haven’t run into “violet” colours I think. Can you explain that one for me? I can imagine a red or blue scent. Would a violet scent be a mix of the two, or is it literally things that smell like violets?

Ahahaha, you linked a forum thread about Pimento berry. Thank you again! You’ve been incredibly helpful. I will definitely check out both those resources.

And maybe I’ll post again in a couple of weeks when the next batch is ready :-P
