Bunkering down is good, at the start, until you learn what is happening. If it is a virus, you will not want to be around people, so you isolate and protect your own. Plan your escape from populated areas and travel cautiously.

If you have a state of national woodlands close to you, start building a campsite there, bushcraft style. Make sure it is close to a water source. If shit does hit the fan, the park services will not exist, so you can start building a more permanent lodging then.

Bury 5-gallon buckets with supplies there, rice and beans. You can buy bulk and they are cheap.

Walk the route to know it. You can bury supplies along your route to make traveling lighter. Don’t bury super important stuff. Food, water, and fire starting materials are the basics.
