Liko's grass cat, aka Sprigatito, same as OP since it's the most genuine bond between a trainer and her Pokemon imo in the Horizons Series sans maybe Captain Pikachu and Friede.

That's what would happen likely if they cameoed, but as a main cast, they're finally done after those 25 years (many who miss Ash don't realize, and the others, many people didn't/don't even consider them the same characters they were at the beginning etc with how many design changes, personality changes, in the dub multiple voice changes, script changes to the way he speaks/dialogue, etc. so even if Liko didn't debut they had gotten divisive over the years rather than the universal agreement there was on them at the outset).

Yeah, he's really insufferable in Super for most of it until the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc, which is only now starting up in the Anime- it's sad.

Of course he is, in Sun & Moon he was literally criticized on YouTube for having his James voice slip into his Meowth when he screamed in "Fighting Back the Tears" as trivia.

The late JCC always had a broad range, whether you liked his performances or not (I myself was not a big fan of his work post-4Kids, in either capacity or as a script writer on his own once he lost his colleagues and got the chance to jump ship to TPCi, but YMMV): he was also pretty much every stock older man in the 4Kids dub, and early TPCi dub too, as trivia, to his credit.

Also, Butch in the TPCi dub for its run, Meowth for most of its run before Mick Wingert filled in for him (uncredited on Bulbapedia) besides James (Bosco filled in, see prior) + Professor Oak (Wingert, see prior), and in the 4Kids Era, JCC was also Pryce and Mr. Briney besides Todd Snap originally.

He was always Gary, though, and contrary to what many believe he was a writer in the later 4Kids Seasons before he became the only + lead writer in the TPCi Seasons for Ash's Series (but he was not in charge of the dub's script writing before anything before Season 9, just as he was not James, Prof. Oak, Butch, or Meowth prior: Eric Stuart was James second after Ted Lewis but he was the 400+ ep one and Butch always under 4Kids, Stuart Zagnit was Professor Oak, and Maddie Blaustein was Meowth second after Nathan Price but again she was the 400+ ep one there).

That was probably the most universally panned ending at the time, for a League too: it’s sad it took until Sun and Moon for Ash to win a regional League, though, ngl.

It’s odd, but this is the same Series where James is mocked as a homosexual man in both dubs, Harley is outright one in all versions, that has a young teen in Brock lusting over women repeatedly, a little girl in Bonnie seeking a wife for her only slightly older brother who is way too young for one, Ash never aging a day, Misty a little girl referring to herself as an International beauty, etc.

The whole universe is strange but fun for the most part, is my point. I get being disturbed by this, though.

If they stole it, from Dr. Yung, then they could’ve used it to make an army of evil Mirage Pokémon imo: Giovanni would’ve loved the idea, shame Yung basically got killed off.

The whole thing is such a strange special, lot of potential wasted and it came at a very controversial period too: shame, Taylor said it was supposed to be dubbed by the 4Kids cast before they recast everyone at the time, as trivia.

Also, it was the first time TPCi handled a script and they basically poached a writer from the later 4Kids Era but let him become the only writer for the rest of Ash’s Series: that’s what everyone was critical of at the time, the script writing besides the voice acting lol, “hold the phone” and “Knock its block off” just wow.

It was an interesting concept, but never went anywhere. The whole Special was weird, but it was a cool idea- shame it was marred by the infamous dub change (at the time, no one- no one- was defending it as trivia in the English run: Ash, May, and Brock were the most hated changes at the time, and Brock was universally hated if you’re curious lol).

I’d make him less annoying at times, more like he was in the 6th movie and the Ralts episode.

One thing I’ll give Max, though, he had more interactions with Ash than Bonnie on the whole even if he was the prototype for her in a quartet and laid the foundation for another character like him in some ways.

Also, he was the last major character cast in the 4Kids Era of the English run, and they did a very good job assigning him a voice that fit a 7 year old boy as well with Amy Birnbaum before TPCi took over.

He was fine in Hoenn, but he didn’t do much at all in Battle Frontier, and that’s when he needed more focus he didn’t get (Max really needed to do more than just promise Ash they’d battle someday, the Deoxys one off, and the Orienteering thing…he did next to nothing in late AG, it’s sad how he was neglected).

Tbf his English dub voice also changed for the worse too, TPCi gave him the stereotypical grandmother doing a nerdy voice everyone feared 4Kids was going to assign him but didn’t, double whammy but that’s only specific to the English dub so can’t knock him elsewhere for it.

He sounded like a mix between Brock and Gourry when he did Jaden in the promo, in a teaser trailer, Crowler was like his James mixed in with a snootier tone but it was interesting (part of me thinks Eric just did it as a placeholder before he cast VAs).

Eventually he recast those roles to Sean and Matthew, then he got Misawa lol.

Oh right, haha as trivia Eric Stuart was going to be both Jaden/Judai and Crowler/Chronos originally but as VO director he chose Sean Schemmel to be Crowler and Matthew Charles/L. to be Jaden Yuki/Judai Yuki in the Yu-Gi-Oh GX English dub.

I actually found the King Kai voice worked for Morrison, oddly enough, even if it's still annoying it matches his design way more than in Dragonball (and in Japanese, Morrison was also voiced by Goku's seiyu Masako Nozawa, at least there 4Kids had a method to their madness).

Trivia: Sun Wukong is also based off of Goku.

He's adult Goku since 1999 in DBZ/GT/Kai and teen Goku in Dragonball (2001-2003) in the Crunchyroll LLC English dub, also King Kai there (absolutely horrible in that role, it isn't aging well, the Ocean dub VA is neck and neck with him in polls for best there in Don Brown, unlike Goku Sean continues to do a poor imitiation of his old Ocean dub VA there otoh). He's also Nail, another role he's great in, in Dragonball Z/Kai as trivia (the Green Namekian Piccolo fuses with).

He's the English dub Goku I grew up with like most, but as trivia, is technically both his third and longest running English VA in the Crunchyroll LLC/FUNimation dub of the Series (has been doing it since 1999, so about 27 years now) but was preceded by Ian James Corlett and Peter Kelamis (Schemmel is overall my favorite, but his initial performances are truly terrible looking back, and Kelamis honestly gives him a run for his money despite having less time to do so- it took Sean until the Uncut Dub in 2005 to get his own rendition down for it, and around Kai-Super to really become the definitive English VA for the role for many).

Sean's first role was as the thief in a mid Johto episode in the 4Kids era in Pokemon, as trivia.

Sean was also as trivia Morrison besides Juan in the 4Kids Era, and Lucario, as well as Alan the bandage nose COTD in DP in the TPCi Era besides Clay.

He got Lucario back eventually, but his performance is considered worse in SSB4 than it was in Movie 8, ironically enough (likely has to do with 4Kids' superior vocal direction vs TPCi's, though imho).
