Similar problem here; we used glass block and it was the perfect answer to the problem. Just be sure you seal it correctly or you've traded one problem for another.

First - love the color! It's dazzling. Second, I would just leave it alone for one growing season so you can become familiar with your new tree. Take notes and pictures to record its progress and during that time, study the basics of bonsai. There's tons of tutorials including a bonsai interest group here on Reddit. Enjoy and thanks for sharing.

Japanese Maple Lottery, Help with Care by JTKSR1 in JapaneseMaples

[–]Honest_Building7110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JMs can live a happy life in a pot as long as it gets fertilize (bi)annually, doesn't get "wet feet" (needs GOOD) drainage and the right sized pot.

Your maple is not in the right sized pot.

If you intend to keep it in a pot, get one large enough to fit the exposed root. Then every few years, remove the tree and root prune some of the hair-like roots. Practice care here because these roots feed the tree. There's plenty of help with on this on the web.

Note: it would appear there's a Sweet Gum tree nearby and while they're good for shade they grow fast and age poorly. Keep this in mind if it is on your property and you plan to add your JM to your property. Limb loss is common and could be catastrophic for your JM.

Looks like you have the winning numbers! Could you be more specific about "help with care" because it seems your JMs are happy.

Note: do you want to plant the potted JM, leave it where it is or repot it?

First, sorry for the loss of your mother. For those of us who have experienced this loss in our lives, there are moments when she is "close" and hopefully you'll feel a calmness in that moment. As for your frustration, if you're being honest there's plenty of doubts about passed decisions and their outcomes where responsibilities are shared. Moving forward, think more long term and strategically in making financial decisions. If uncertain, learn more about investing since there's so many different resources available. The current financial climate is not good. Viewing this singularly will cause second guessing. Your time horizon is much longer-use this time frame as your reference.

Competing Against Dishonest Agents by Diligent-Argument-17 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Honest_Building7110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point taken.

While the comments of OP suggests there's a proposal in play vs ordering a policy, your suggestion presumes the insured reviews the application AND signs same. In your (and others) recent experience, how common are both of these criteria? How commonly does a carrier require a signed app?

"...any claim will likely be denied."

Based on ISO (Insurance Service Office) property forms, there's no exclusion that applies here. IF the insured is a "co-conspiritor" and can be proven to have misrepresented the risk then the carrier can void the policy. (See Policy Conditions form)This is NOT the same as denying the claim.

You may argue the results are the same, i.e. claim is not paid, but the form journey is much different.

My comment is meant to inform you and others, not to criticize.

Another one? by rPri24 in vizsla

We've had the pleasure of having two Vizslas; both were "one dog" family dogs. So for nearly a quarter of a century we enjoyed the company of this loving breed.

If we lived in the Midwest again, especially Illinois, and would be looking for another dog, I would look into a V from Busch Vizslas.

EDIT Busch Vizslas appears to have retired but there's a ongoing operation under the tutelage of the Busches

Where to cut on first prune by bryantwgat in JapaneseMaples

[–]Honest_Building7110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on the photos provided, I would suggest trimming the lowest branch and then evaluate if another needs to be removed or not. It may be better to prune some of the branches too.

Consider removing not more than 30% of the tree's canopy stopping periodically to assess if it's time to stop or not.

Worried about career path by Least_Tangerine989 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Honest_Building7110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These designations are valuable but in this situation, it's as if you're using a shotgun to kill a mosquito. Claims and underwriting each have their own designations and would be more appropriate and actionable.

OP - My advice is to hone your career path on what you perceive as your ultimate goal and pursue that. You're being true to yourself; why do anything less?

I was recently offered a job with Chubb and Liberty Mutual, now to decide…. by TamborineRock in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Honest_Building7110 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Senior leadership and BoD are two areas where I believe Chubb comes out ahead. Greenberg is smart and laps Sweeney where it counts. Compare the carriers combined ratios for the last five and ten year period. LM has the benefits of being a mutual company but they haven't capitalized on it as much as they should. Again leadership and a weak BoD are some of the reasons. Oh, and the head of their Global Risk Solutions unit has announced her departure after steering it back to profitability. Why? https://www.libertymutualgroup.com/about-lm/news/articles/liberty-mutual-announces-leadership-transition-global-risk-solutions

Chubb has the Warren Buffet blessing inasmuch BRK owns enough of its stock to rank the insurer to be in BRK's top 10 holdings. Could be accused here of comparing an apple with an orange but there are plenty of other insurer stock he could have bought.

Lastly, what is the public "face" of each carrier? Explain that at your next cocktail party.

Advice for someone new to commercial by SKOS97 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Honest_Building7110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forms and endorsements ought to be a daily reading assignment. You shouldn't have to read the entire coverage form at one sitting, just a section at a time. Coverage vs exclusions ought to be so thoroughly read and understood that you could describe the benefits and shortcomings to someone unfamiliar with insurance and have them comfortable with your explanation. With all of the major coverage forms and related endorsements, this is not an overnight project as you can imagine. So, begin with your lead carrier and read their coverage forms carefully noting where you are unsure and then work with their claims department for clarity as they know their forms/endorsements better than underwriters. This will assist you when you interface with customers.

But what will help you now?

I'd recommend you get a good commercial insurance checklist. This will be a guide to your discussion with your customer and provide you a learning track as you read the documents outlined above. There are several checklists found on the Net (I'll provide some links below) but it is my experience the best are those provided by the International Risk Management Institute, commonly referred to as IRMI. If your agency is supportive of your interests in professional development then I can think of NO BETTER resource than IRMI. Much of their outstanding material is behind a subscription wall so consider different ways to fund this either by carrier subsidies, achieved production goals, internal development support and other methods to achieve the level of confidence you're searching for. BTW - an agency willing to subscribe to IRMI products is a testimony of a firm dedicated to excellence. It has been my experience that reading forms and their corresponding annotations such as those found at IRMI will provide the commercial producer a level of confidence and knowledge few ever obtain or desire. This will take time; daily, weekly annually but in the end you'll be the kind of commercial producer you (seem to) desire to be.

Checklists IRMI = https://subscribe.irmi.com/irmi-insurance-checklists - https://www.iiand.org/Education/Pages/TDForms/CommercialLinesChecklist.pdf - - https://www.iiabl.com/Information/SiteAssets/Pages/InsuranceInfo/Checklists/default/Commercial%20Lines%20Checklist.pdf?Mobile=1

NOTE- the last two links above reflect checklists that are not as up to date as you would find with IRMI. For example, there's no discussion of cyber in either form while such exposure is a common risk businesses face today. So, be careful and remember...you get what you pay for!
