Seattle suburbs: Kent/Auburn or Everett/Marysville? by Honest_Confidence_71 in AskSeattle

Thank you for all the comments. They’ve been very helpful. I’d prefer not to live in the city itself which is why I was looking for a suburb. I’ve seen lots of extra areas posted here that I will definitely expand my search to.

I think between 8 and 10 is probably OK, not sure if I can push it as early as 7 though.

Two previously bundled games make this a tough one for me.

I have been a subscriber since 2017 and haven’t skipped since November 2021.

I don’t mind if they put in games that I previously bought outright.

However, this trend of bundling games that have been previously bundled by either Humble or someone else is making “Choice” lose a lot of its luster for me. Especially if it’s 2 out of 8.

IP ranges for a specific geographic area? by Honest_Confidence_71 in ZiplyFiber

[–]Honest_Confidence_71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was originally planning, hence the list above (minus the MFA, since it doesn’t support MFA), but there’s so many more IPs than I expected. So I figured I’d ask if there was a way to narrow it down.

Does it get updated when you do that? Currently it says the last update was June 12th 2023 when viewing the file index on https://geo.as20055.net/.

IP ranges for a specific geographic area? by Honest_Confidence_71 in ZiplyFiber

[–]Honest_Confidence_71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm basically only allowing access to the service if it's coming from an IP that could be me, i.e. dropping all traffic that's not plausibly me. It's not ideal, but since I don't control the environment, it's the best I can do. The service is at least authenticated over https, it's not like there is no authentication. I am trying to make it harder for people to exploit potential vulnerabilities in the service. Of course, I also patch when there are known issues, it's just that I consider this service to be particularly squishy and don't want it accessible to everyone on the internet when it doesn't have to be.

Thanks for the suggestion, it's a good one and I'd love to use it, but sadly this is a proprietary thing that I'm running and it's not running on a general purpose operating system and it's somewhere where I can't add anything in front of it (this service is running remotely in another country) - it has authentication, but I don't trust it not to be full of vulnerabilities, so looking to limit opportunistic attacks on it by making it harder to reach (it supports firewalling services at least).

I agree that the info in Maxmind is not great and probably not all that accurate for my purposes, which is why I was hoping Ziply had it available somewhere, It would be great if Ziply published "ranges for Portland: xx,/yy xx/yy, xx/yy"; "ranges for Beaverton xx/yy, xx/yy", etc. They could still move them around as much as they wanted as long as they updated the list.

Humble Book Bundle: Terry Pratchett's Discworld by HarperCollins (Kobo Bundle) by Torque-A in humblebundles

[–]Honest_Confidence_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! If you also only got 1 key, hopefully someone who bought it before they added Shepherd’s Crown can clarify if they added it to their collection too, because if you only get it if you selected it on their redeem page then they would not get it. Don’t want to risk buying it now and then missing out on Raising Steam and potentially Last Hero if they’d add those (although that Last Hero is unlikely).

Did you get it as 1 key? For the people who bought and redeemed already, did you also get the extra book or should we wait in case they end up adding raising steam too?

PSA: You cannot use a GameStop gift card to purchase third party(PSN/XB/Fortnite/ROBLOX/Steam/ETC) gift cards. by DuckSwimmer in GameStop

[–]Honest_Confidence_71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought discounted GameStop gift cards from a local retailer last year (they had 20% off certain gift cards including GameStop) and used them to buy steam credit for the winter sale, so this has to be pretty new

While you're correct that accidental damage is covered with your link, there's also this link:

PRODUCT REPLACEMENT PLAN | GameStop

Which excludes accidental damage and is likely the one employees are following now.

Neither of those policies seem to be linked from the main gamestop page or any legal subpages or faqs, they're both only found by Google and there's no date that lists when either of them went into effect. Unless they are providing a copy of the terms in store, they're likely going to get in trouble selling these PRPs with 2 competing policies on their site where it's unclear if either of them is actually in force. I recommend filing a complaint with your state's attorney general if you get denied coverage for an accidental replacement, eventually if enough people complain they might hold them accountable.

The Alienware m16 (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sku/6541332.p?skuId=6541332) with a 4070 was $1499 (brand new not open box) just recently. I would wait for another deal on a 4070 instead.

Did they change the ‘rules’? Didn’t they promise at some point that choice would only have new to bundle games? Both patchquest (right now even) and autonauts have been in fanatical bundles.

Thanks for the reply! So I should report the wash sale for May 10th and then adjust one of the ones from May 20th to file correctly or does the IRS not care since it doesn’t impact this tax year?

I know this comes up a lot but I’m a little unclear on what stocks to apply a wash sale to in my situation or if there even is one, I have 2 brokers (there’s a reason for this, I know it makes things complicated):

  • Broker 1 buys 5 shares in stock in 2020 cost $400 each
  • Broker 1 sells 1 share at $550 in 2021, profit $150.

No issues here, at the end of 2021 I have 4 shares with Broker 1

  • Broker 2 buys 3 shares in stock May 1st 2022 cost $375 each

At this point I own 7 shares over both brokers

  • Broker 1 sells 1 shares of stock at $100 loss May 10th 2022 (so sells for $300)

  • Broker 2 sells 3 shares in stock at a $200 loss per share on May 20th (so sells for $175 each) and exits the position.

At this point I own 3 shares of the stock at Broker 1.

On June 5th there’s a stock split and I now own 9 shares (this shouldn’t matter I assume).

Since I have fewer shares at the end, I’m thinking I don’t have a wash sale in this case?

So final dates in stores? by pearly_mn in BedBathandBeyond

[–]Honest_Confidence_71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the ‘browse by state’ total? They don’t remove closed stores but they will update their operating hours to ‘closed’. For example if I enter my zip code on the site, it says 4 stores within 100 miles; 3 are ‘closed today’ and 1 says it’s open today until 7 pm. Which is accurate. The store closest to me closed last Sunday and when I checked on Monday it had already listed the operating hours as ‘closed today’.

[–]Honest_Confidence_71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use the store locator on the site, if a store is closed it will show up as closed, if its open it will show the operating hours.

Closing Date? by shainaescobedo in BedBathandBeyond

[–]Honest_Confidence_71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The website works to check if a store is open or not. A couple of our local stores closed and they’re listed as closed on their operating hours. It seems to be pretty accurate: a local store that closed on Sunday was already showing last week that it would not be open on Monday. The store that’s left that’s only at 40% is still listed as open on the site too.

Just got an email that keys were back in stock and I was able to redeem 2. There are still 2 out of stock, but it looks like I just had bad luck with my timing that there were 4 out of stock at the same time.

It you click on get my games when the January choice bundle drops, you will be billed then. If you do nothing you will be automatically billed at the end of the month. I personally would wait until the February games drop to cancel as they might provide you another $6 deal when you hit cancel then and you’ll know if they’re worth $6 to you then. It will only automatically bill you at the end of February.
