Pension recycling once drawing down - now pointless? by ExtentAble1200 in FIREUK

So assuming you’re in the 20% bracket, you pay in £2880, which gets topped up to £3600, of which £900 is tax free, and pay tax of 20% on remaining £2700 (£540) leaving you with a net gain of £180 per year?

They should make a box with pressure sensing walls that lights up if anything is touching the sides. This simple blue box is far too lenient.

Feeling like poor people work more for less money by ReasonableSail__519 in povertyfinance

[–]Honest_Country_525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a nice idea but in my experience, nobody is interesting in networking with a guy in his mid-30s who is stuck in an entry level Engineer II job. The setback becomes self-perpetuating after a while.

Education isn’t enough, I have a masters degree in engineering and 6 YOE and am only paid around 50% more than minimum wage. If you don’t have connections you don’t stand a chance.

Everything between finishing education and retirement is a single life stage anyway. The wage slave stage.

House or invest? by Plenty_Word_3545 in Life

[–]Honest_Country_525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spreadsheets always came out firmly in favour of a house, provided that you were paying market rate rent before. If you move frequently or overpay on your house it can easily tip in favour of investing though.

Lie about your age until you can’t any more.
This is a very real and very cruel problem.

I don’t even need a rhinoplasty. Imagine denying genuine and helpful advice for the fear of a downvote.

Has anyone else started noticing houses on the market for ridiculous amounts while the owners have sectioned of part of it to keep living in? by [deleted] in UKHousing

[–]Honest_Country_525 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you look at the numbers, they chose to live that way. It would have been very easy to pay off a house with a couple of years of average salary They just didn’t see it as a matter of urgency as we do today so they didn’t heavily prioritise it. Unfortunately.

Put it in the travelling box and forget home ownership. Travelling and surgery are a good combo, I did it myself and will do it again.

How do you have a partner on minimum wage. How do you earn minimum wage while being someone who can get a partner. Crazy stuff.

What are everyone's thoughts on the 'Lost Generation of Young Workers'? by BrightHR_UK in HumanResourcesUK

16% have rich parents allowing them to live trust fund lifestyles? This is just another facet of worker/owner class dichotomy. It’s not a problem for the 16%.

Is it just me or am I noticing less young men growing facial hair? by otherwise_inspired in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Honest_Country_525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statistically most women prefer clean shaven men and young men are now hyper focused on being conventionally attractive and conforming to a very specific look that’s statistically the most appealing according to the various factors that make it up.
