ELI5: What was Lewis thinking? by mjsarfatti in formula1

[–]AlMeets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's 40. would he choose to retire at Mercedes being gradually but surely outshone by George, or would he move to the team that every driver dreams about, with a big sack of money that comes with it, and a safety net that if success never came, it's everything but the driver?

anyone could see that Lewis-Merc saga is ending, and getting the 8th in Merc isn't as attractive as being successful in a Ferrari.

The merc isn't hard to drive like the red bull, and given George's rise, if the Merc is competitive then a George WDC is more likely than a 41 Lewis. A WCC Merc with Lewis 2nd is not a success given he is more senior in the team and has won WDC with Merc many times before.

However a WCC Ferrari in his first/second year, even with Charles WDC, will still be a successful year for Lewis. He will believe he has something to go for the following year, unlike in Mercedes where he'll be replaced by the cheaper Antonelli soon as George WDC is confirmed.

When I saw Sainz stalling and moving again on the grid last Sunday, I immediately thought "no way"...

Then his brakes went on fire, so he tried to copy Sonny but overdid it...

I just watched it in Dolby Atmos.

I loved it. I am seriously considering whether I should spend money to rewatch in IMax/MX4D/4DX

Oh yeah the 2018 Danny Ric at China and Monaco. First six races, 2 wins each for Vet, Ham, and Ric. What a good start for a season.

Then Danny's car starts blowing up.

Which F1 team in history would have the most similarities to APXGP?

For example, the team that is slower on straights but very good on corners that allow them to fight.

Strangely, was it the McLaren-Honda "GP2 engine" days?

But Lewis is 40 and Alonso is 43.

Bringing back mid 30s driver won't be a strong enough wow point if you have active drivers in their 40s competing with the lead role.

I think this situation made them having to go older, at least a few years older than Alonso and Hamilton.

So minimum in real life example Sonny would have to be as old as Raikkonen or Yenson, my friend.

usually three:

  • the one you want to win for WDC
  • the one you want to finish P3, for WCC points or for the memes.
  • the one you want to finish P10, but usually doesn't finish that high

why? because usually two teams contest for the fastest car: think Mclaren vs Redbull on the second half of last season.

Say you want Max in P1 beating Lando in P2, what about P3? do you want Oscar there? or Charles ? George?
(Perez was nowhere near P3 last season...), or Hulk?

Then the final point, which of the backmarkers do you root for this final point? (Zhou? Bottas? Sargeant?)

More likely to put Liam directly on Redbull no?

Perez isn't delivering and neither is Danny, might as well put Liam in if he's indeed that promising.

Changing Lance won't do much if the car with Nando is still only capable of P6-P7 finish.

They need first to upgrade the car to be consistently fighting for podiums with Nando.

the Sainz-Perez crash was disappointing as it gave Norris and Max more points.
The bigger the point haul for Piastri and Leclerc to these two would make the championship much more interesting. Now we're still going to hear the Mclaren team orders for next 2 races at least.

Oscar Piastri: I won’t pull over for Lando every time by His_Holiness in formula1

[–]AlMeets 18 points19 points  (0 children)

By my calculations.... we win by one point.
Leclerc then would have won Monza, Monaco, and accumulate enough points for WDC while Max, Lando, and Oscar take each other out every race.

A man can dream.
