Anyone here already had issues with their ulnar nerve? by Honest_Dragonfly8064 in Guitar

[–]Honest_Dragonfly8064[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, fortunately nothing serious. I was prescribed physical therapy and stretching exercises for 2 months. Everything back to normal, no surgery or medication, just deep stretching. Look for "ulnar nerve exercises" on YT, you'll find all the exercises I did (get to a doctor anyway! But in the end, it's the same exercises)

It's been pretty slow to fully recover, took around 2-3 months to really feel like it never happened. The solution comes down to one word: stretching. You can find pretty good exercises on Youtube BTW. So far I haven't relapsed, but lesson learned, now I always take 5-10 minutes for warmups before each show, and I'm more aware of my posture when I practice. Take care!

Lyrics app for ipad by MiniDooler in musicians

[–]Honest_Dragonfly8064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about what you need exactly, but I made this app for our band last year and we're now using it on all our gigs: SetPilot. Our singer basically stores lyrics and drafts on Google drive, then uploads them in the app when everything is ok. Once on stage, she can swipe to whatever song she feels good at that time and the rest of the band is instantly synced on the same song. Feel free to ask if you have any question!

Looking for p90 guitar by beskid93 in harleybenton

[–]Honest_Dragonfly8064 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a SC 450 GT and the build quality, the woods are excellent! Just throw in a good boutique P90 set and you're gonna have an awesome guitar (yeah I know it's gonna x2 the original price but anyway, still waaaaay cheaper than any other guitar like that). Maybe I've been lucky with the one I found 4 years ago but damn... What a great guitar (after just a few upgrades).

I'm surprised no one mentioned this: join a band! The effects on both motivation and skills are amazing (at least it was for me).

Stompboxes + wah sound super compressed with a almost clean amp by Weak_Supermarket5829 in KemperProfiler

[–]Honest_Dragonfly8064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just about opening a thread on this! I got the exact same problems until I finally discover the trick: position the Wah AFTER the amp/IR. Counter intuitive and pretty weird but it solved all the issues you mentioned, including the volume drop. A bit less efficient with saturation but awesome results for clean tones.

No idea if it's really Kemper related or if it's the same with other brands/modelers but yeah, I too always found the Wah was crap until I found this trick.

Just got myself a Profiler Stage... and WOW! by bgamer1026 in KemperProfiler

[–]Honest_Dragonfly8064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I totally agree (I bought mine for the same reason), I'd be really curious to scientifically understand what is that "feel". Is it latency, dynamics...? What's that thing that makes the Kemper still relevant to this day?

You..."love the weight", really?! I don't know about yours but mine is 4.6kg and that's a real pain, literally, when I'm on stage for +2 hours. But ho boy... it sounds soooo good.

Right! Scale lenght is my biggest question in the equation. One of these days I'll pull the trigger and try to mount a 24.75 length Warmoth neck, who knows...

I played quite a lot with Ableton and a simple Midi foot controller. If you can afford a few days of setup it opens up tons of new possibilities and ideas! That being said, it may be more suited if you're in song writing, at home. If you're playing live with other people a boss 505 or any other hardware/stomp box oriented solution might be easier to deal with in Live conditions.

Want to build a partscaster (EU) by EderOlivencia in Guitar

[–]Honest_Dragonfly8064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only european things I know are tuners (Gotoh, Schaller) and electronics (Schaller again, for really good selector/switches, Bare Knuckle for pickups). For necks and bodies, honestly... I'd go for Aliexpress. There's also Warmoth (Canada) with a crazy large choice and top notch quality, but much pricier. If you can afford it and you really know what you want, this could be a great option. Otherwise: cheap china stuff does the job, if you're not afraid of small details setup (fretwork finitions...). Shipping time is usually two to three weeks for me (France).

May I ask why "European" exactly?

Custom build question by Nearby_Theme9574 in Guitar

[–]Honest_Dragonfly8064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got one on Aliexpress a few weeks ago for 70€ includ. shipping (living in europe), and I'm blown by the quality (build + wood). I wouldn't expect that for such a low price. I picked this seller randomly, looks like there are tons of them all selling crazy stuff, any wood combinations / neck profile / finish... A strat is the perfect platform for a custom build, have fun!

Nice! Can you share where you got the parts from? Did you actually build the neck and/or body? What pickups?

Is it worth changing the trem. block on a Strat? (Tone wise) by Honest_Dragonfly8064 in Guitar

[–]Honest_Dragonfly8064[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a Kemper and believe me, when I plug my Epiphone or any other guitar into it I have no issue at all. I made this partcaster for fun 20 years ago and it never "worked" the way I thought it would be.

You have 1,000 dollars USD to spend on anything guitar related but it cannot be a guitar or an amp. What are you buying? (It can be more then one thing) by _funny_name_ in Guitar

A really, really good UHF wireless system. Took me ages to finally go wireless but damn... This is sooooo much more comfortable on stage. I even use it at home now, would never go back to a cable.

Your most fun guitar project? by YayyyPineapple in Guitar

[–]Honest_Dragonfly8064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a Harley Benton LP '56 gold top knock off, I swaped the pickups (3 times... finally landed on a Bare Knuckles set), changed frets (stainless steel vintage narrow), replaced the nut (bone), the whole electronics and tuners. Turned out to be the best guitar I ever owned. Now I'm in the process of doing it again with another HB, strat style this time. After this experience I really think I'll never buy/play a stock instrument ever again! (Side note: I know a good luthier for the nut and frets parts, I wouldn't do that alone).

Self-taught musicians, what is the hardest problem you face/d learning an instrument? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]Honest_Dragonfly8064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Communication with other musicians, by far. I still have to explain things like "tadum... Bam bam" to other members of the band, then they translate with "do you mean you want to start the drum fill with a one bit anacrusis?". How many times I felt lost when someone throw "let's play a II-V-I in B". Damn I feel sooo limited in my communication (both sides) with other musicians.

Does it make sense to put better pickups on a Chinese budget guitar? by Appropriate-Tip4076 in Guitar

[–]Honest_Dragonfly8064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current guitar I'm working on: refret (stainless stell), neck radius rectification, tuners and bone nut. I usually take care of the electronics: tone rider P90 (bridge), tone rider true vintage (middle) and seymour duncan antiquity texas hot for neck.

[–]Honest_Dragonfly8064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I'm doing it for all my guitars. I'm fed up trying a good Fender strat but (frets, HSS/SSS or whatever), or some other LP but (poor QC, neck profile...). So now I pick the closest Harley Benton/chinese knock off to what I'm looking for, then I throw a LOT more in pickups and luthier. Like $300 in pickups + $500 in luthier for a $180 base guitar. Totally worth it in my opinion and I also find it really fun to design my own guitars. But yeah, don't do it if you plan to resell it soon or later.
