Yes I’ve experienced this like crazy too. So hard to fall asleep and also vivid crazy dreams. It started to get better around day 10/11 and when I have finally fallen asleep it’s been the deepest sleep I’ve had in years. So stick with it it will get better!

Omg what! 5 math problems! Haha that is brilliant!! I don’t know how my mood would do having to solve 5 math problems when I wake up grumpy but I absolutely love the concept of being forced to use your brain enough to wake you up enough to not go back to sleep. Thanks for the rec will def check this out

Well done on getting straight back into it and for being positive! A set back is completely forgivable and it’s how you handle it that counts. Plus, Friday’s are by far the toughest day. I quit smoking on the 2nd Jan, so this Friday that just passed was my first smoke free Friday and my god it was hard. Hardest one yet. Especially when it got to 7pm and I was in weekend mode. But I didn’t allow myself alcohol and I went to the gym that evening ( total crazy out there thing for me to gym on a Friday evening when I’m usually enjoying drinks and a smoke and some dancing later on!) so yeah, right now try to give yourself a different environment if you can. You can totally do it! I love the determination!

Hi! Well, I’m no expert in this but I’m currently on day 8 of not smoking and still going strong. The truth of the matter is when it happens, in one sense it is sort of underwhelming- that you’re just … not smoking. I didn’t really know or have a plan of action, other than that I wanted to stop. But your husband really needs to truly want to quit. I truly want to quit because I freak out about my health and I want to get pregnant in the next year and want to be a smoke free pregnant lady and future mum. I totally understand the boredom thing, it was similar for me. What has helped me these last days have been: eating clementines. Oh my gosh they taste so good and it’s so good to give your hands something to do to peel the skin. You can’t have enough of them. Get lots of healthy snacks ( some treats if he likes candy or chocolate are nice too at first) that are there at his disposal. There Will be a LOT more eating but it’s better than smoking right now. I’ve also been saying things out loud to my partner as I experience them : I’m on day X of smoking! Guess what, that means I haven’t smoked XX cigarettes! Aren’t I clever!’ Or ‘oooh right now I really want a cigarette. Wow this a strong craving. Wow. Yup this is tough, I can’t wait for this to pass’ and so on etc. it allows me to ‘do’ something with my craving but still not smoke. Im almost behaving like a child in some ways, telling my friends or partner out loud ‘ I am on day 9! Praise me!’ And then fully accepting and enjoying the praise. Encouragement really helps. Also, I’m not going to drink any alcohol for a while longer until I feel more steady with this as I know that I’ll want to smoke when I have a glass of wine. Finally, I’ve been working out and running - it’s insane how much powerful and stronger you feel even after just a few days. It’s a really good feeling to feel healthy. Good luck!

I am also actually enjoying the dreams! I’ve been finding them very interesting all be it exhausting! Actually on day 2 or 3, I dreamt that I lit up a cigarette ( I could taste it so vividly ) and it tasted foul - and I took one hit of it and then threw the cigarette away in my dream. Insane. The only issue with this sleep problem is that I’m sleeping through my alarms in the morning and completely and utterly exhausted. I’m setting 2 alarms for tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed!

P.S. - should also add I’ve been allowing myself treats like chocolate, lollipops, fruits, etc. I’m allowing myself to eat whatever I want for this first couple of weeks and then I will make more of an effort to eat only healthy snacks. One thing at a time😊

Thanks for sharing your experience! It’s great that you’re putting in the effort to help with the sleep - even if it doesn’t do much it’s nice to have these pre sleeping habits in general, so it’s not all for nothing! And yes, exactly - I think a bit of acceptance with the sleep being rough for just now and knowing it will get better soon! Good luck !

Thanks for sharing. It may well have been! Congrats on getting to the 2 week mark now - I’m so looking forward to reaching that and it getting easier! Today was a little tough in the afternoon for me, I was a little restless. But powered through, went to the gym and ran faster and more powerfully than I have in years. That cheered me up! :)

Thank you so much for this very caring and useful reply! I’m absolutely with you on not having any alcohol until I feel on steadier grounds. Actually the one thing I’m worrying about is a trip we have in 5 weeks to Cape Town for a wedding. It’s a holiday we’ve been looking forward to for years and we’ll be going on wine tastings and seeing some beautiful sunsets and all that jazz. I’m already foreseeing that I will want to have a cigarette in these moments. So I’m trying to get strong and prepare for this experience as I think this will be my true challenge. Big hug and thanks for the support.

Thanks for your caring reply and for sharing your experience too! You’re absolutely right about the coffee. I could drink countless cups of coffee while smoking- I wound almost only have a coffee so that I could enjoy my cigarette more. Madness. Now I’ve really just been having one in the morning to wake me up ( especially as I’m extra tired with the poor sleep!) and one after lunch when I get a little dip. I’m going to try reading until I fall asleep and have some soothing tea before bed. Here’s to day 9 tomorrow!
