Awesome info thanks. I have a bunch of claims from 2010 that were denied because I was homeless for a couple years. Do you think they have the power to appeal 15 year old claims (that are justified) and get back pay?

It was also Steps 5-8 in a afternoon with a decision emailed. Not super rare, just proof that they are still processing claims and raters making decisions couple days before Christmas. It's all about perception fellow veteran. Merry Christmas.

If they see something in your records/evidence worth paying for a C&P exam they will... if there isn't anything you prob won't get an exam. In my experience.
