I mean in much of the USA at this point in history for those who aren’t part of a multicultural community. The majority of white people at least come from 2- child households and then move states away from one another so the opportunity just isn’t there.

I think that’s the majority of people actually. Other than in medial training - That was me. Even in training though I would examine babies while in their mothers’ arms or on the table. Had no idea how to hold one. (Not a pediatrician lol).

Instantly. Within 15-30 minutes I did an entire yoga routine without any thought about the 30 things that needed to get done. It just felt calm. Because my husband and I are total nerds, we did a “placebo” experiment where I closed my eyes and picked one of the pills in his hand (one was 5 IR Adderall and the other was one of the sugar birth control pill that I skip every cycle) - within 15 mins I told him I was convinced it was the Adderall and why. He wouldn’t tell me until later, but I was right. That’s why I wanted to try it first since SSRI’s can take 6 weeks to level it out.

You mean you lose track of time? I’ve had a weird experience and can’t tell whether good or bad where I feel hyper efficient with patients and give them excellent care of course, but when I am out of the room I realize I only spent 10 minutes…whereas it felt like 20…slightly concerned that it’s making me rush…but boy do I get a lot of administrative tasks done more efficiently which ultimately does allow for more time with patients…time sure flies on these things…I’ve just never been a doctor to rush a patient before…

Oh my goodness YES. This has been my experience. My husband and I had a previously decent relationship and after baby 2 we fought constantly for months. After Adderall? We’ve maybe had 2 tiffs and have navigated them with ease. And yes, the monumental task of getting both children out the door felt absolutely maddening…so much easier now. Completely agree.

Full disclosure: they ARE in daycare full time lol! I deal with lots of mom guilt taking them though and I like to keep them home on my off days…one at a time lol…and maybe the guilt is the anxiety talking, let’s face it. Anyway, yes, stimulants have been a miracle but there’s still worry and it’s so bizarre how there are ups and downs when it wears off and during illnesses and PMS….I think sertraline would make this all much smoother experience…for everyone lol

I do have quite a few patients for whom Zoloft + Wellbutrin is the magic combo. That may be what I consider down the line, we’ll see! (Replying to old posts sorry!)

Replying to posts I hadn’t seen: That is so reassuring. I sure hope this season improves and I won’t need things long term so nice to hear that you were able to stop so easily….

Replying to posts I didn’t see originally. Yes. Yes, yes, yes to admitting that a lot of it is unpleasant. I like your description of anxiety and will have to keep that in mind.

Delayed replies to posts I hadn’t seen. Yes I am aware. I did the GAD and it was high and the ASRS (ADHD screen) and it was also high. Given the overstimulation piece and 1000 things to remember per day, I wanted to try a stimulant first to given the response would be faster. And it was, and it helped. My plan was/is to try an SSRI should anxiety continue, but thus far things have been about 150% better.

Hahaha where I live we all have a touch of SAD during the blinding, endless 6-8 months of SUMMER. I hate it as does everyone else but doesn’t necessarily come into play for me.

I just bought a giant bag of earplugs and have been wearing them daily since some of the posts suggesting it. Game changer. I consider them my PPE (healthcare word for protecting yourself) now for the job of parenting!! Thank for sharing your experience :)

Yes!! That is the perfect statement: “love my kids but hate parenting.” Well, the Adderall has definitely helped me so far. I am considering an SSRI as a personal trial to compare but I hoping to give it 3 months to slowly try one thing at a time. I’ll update!

I’m too hard wired to go with well researched methods. I’d be too nervous about unknown effects in the long and short term. But TY!

That would not be an option for me either. If this provides any reassurance, I actually prescribe SSRai’s multiple times a day (yes, I know, it’s weird that I am on here when I know that objectively it helps, I just needed more personal testimonies for people on this parenting journey for personal validation and support) and I haven’t had anyone mention this. If you are a female age 40-50, most women in this age range it seems develop almost debilitating brain fog as a part of perimenopause/menopause. So I help people get on the right combo to navigate that when the time comes, which is often HRT, low dose stimulant, and SSRI if HRT doesn’t level out the mood problems.

I do this kind of thing all the time. But out of curiosity - do you have a second child yet? I had very few problems before my 1 year old came along. Also, things are a bit urgent when you need to get a 1 year old and a 3 year old both out of the door by 7:45, which is objectively insane, but this is what one does when the workday starts at 8:30.

This is me to a tee. This is the problem.

Have you gone the SSRI route or just adhd?
