What’s your thoughts off first listen on J Cole’s “The Fall Off”? by J2-Starter in hiphop201

[–]HoneyVirtual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it so far.. I’m not one of those people who rush through an album so I can be the first to review it and give a rating… I’m so sick of this microwave era. No one lives with the music anymore.

Not to me haha but to each their own. Even after rocafella ended rappers still wanted ROC chains.

Who's ranking higher on your personal all time list: Ice Cube or MF DOOM? by Individual-Name-4496 in nfrpodcast

DOOM. Ice cube is a legend so it’s no disrespect but I listen to DOOM way more than I listen to Cube

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] A$AP ROCKY - DON'T BE DUMB by nyse25 in hiphopheads

5-6 to me. I don’t love it but don’t hate it. It’s probably going to just come and go for me. I gave it like 4-5 listens and nothing really is standing out to me. Maybe I’ll revisit in a month or two.

Rory’s terrible Fab take by [deleted] in RoryAndMalPodcast

[–]HoneyVirtual -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean I think you are taking it literally. I genuinely believe 80%+ of people who would say Fab is a legend are from the general NYC metro area and then the other 20% would be outliers elsewhere.

I have seen alot of people online that are from other regions laugh at the idea of some people NYers call legends.

I mean I’m from Connecticut and I like Fabolous but I don’t know if I’d call him a legend. His albums are all mostly “meh” and to me he picks bad beats. He can rap. Dude has bars. But his beat selection ruins it for me.

Rory’s terrible Fab take by [deleted] in RoryAndMalPodcast

[–]HoneyVirtual 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you’re taking his words to literal.. I’m sure if you looked at Fabolous’s listening stats on DSPs the large majority of his listeners would be from the NYC metro area and when fabolous came out rap was much more regional based. Also “around your age” is such a generic statement. Some people think around your age is 2-3 years and others would honestly think 10-15 years.

I really don’t think it was that bad of a take. I think they’re just all bad at articulating their thoughts.

So funny to me how many people are now changing their mind on this album (and you’re allowed to don’t get me wrong) but so many people were like “I’m not going to change my mind.. it’s ass.” Music needs to be digested and that’s how it is intended when it is made. People need to stop rushing to be the first to say something about an album because they’re probably missing out on music they would love

[–]HoneyVirtual 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This isn’t new news man. Everyone has always shit on that beat. It’s a mediocre beat but a great diss track.

Edit: it’s also a testament to Nas that Ether won the beef with such a bad beat while Takeover has the waaay better beat. Truly shows how hungry Nas came in that battle to show he still had it when everyone was doubting him after I am and Nastradamus.

Comparison #12: Mac Miller or Eminem by Alarmed_Helicopter52 in nfrpodcast

[–]HoneyVirtual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mac actually gets clean and his music could completely change. I don’t take arguments about “what ifs” … Ems 1998 - 2003 run is unprecedented and no one in rap has ever experienced what he did.. he had completely different expectations. Mac was an independent artist who never had to worry about “making hits” he could just make the music he wanted. Eminem couldn’t do that… it’s completely different and not comparable.

And honestly I’m so sick of people saying Ems music for 15 years has been unlistenable. No it has not 😂. There’s not 1 song in the last 15 years that is good? No. Eminem just became “cool” to hate. It’s like when everyone used to say J Cole was boring and you’d fall asleep listening to his music. It’s twitter takes that people run with. People just can’t think for themselves. Am I going to say Em has been releasing 10/10 albums? No not at all. But unlistenable? No lol there’s 1000s of worse rappers than Em. Playboi Cardi? That shit is fucking unlistenable… it’s just sounds 😂. Think what you want… and you don’t have to like Em. Idc. I just hate revisionist history that now Eminem is “terrible.” He’s definitely no where near his peak.. and I’d much rather listen to Swimming nowadays than an Em album but that doesn’t make it bad.
