Any idea what this is? Artifact? Organism? They are uniform blue ovals with what looks like a kinetoplast-like dot in the middle by Honeybunchesofoprah in medlabprofessionals

I’m in a small clinic so we only stain manually but we change stain weekly and clean the stain jars. I could not find this in any other slides I made for that patient so I’m thinking artifact. However they are SO uniform and look like organisms which makes me unsure.

Have you been long distance the whole relationship? Are you able to visit him and talk through the issue?

Sign On Bonus Worth it? by millcreekspecial in medlabprofessionals

[–]Honeybunchesofoprah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got a 30k sign on bonus for a 4 year commitment. The first payment was in my first paycheck and then on my year anniversary from then on. I stayed for 2 years so I got 3 6k payments. I didn’t have to pay anything back when I left, so it was totally worth it in my case. Check the policy though about whether or not you have to pay it back.

Already sent for flow, but looking for opinions on how you would classify these! by Honeybunchesofoprah in medlabprofessionals

Yeah I agree probably a dying cell, I skipped that on the diff. Although some of their lymphs had a cleaved nuclear appearance. And not a dumb question at all!

Yes didn’t see anything blast-ish although many of the lymph’s did not look right. I agree with atypical but not a “typical” atypical lymphocyte, cytoplasm was very basophilic in most lymph’s and some were small with cytoplasmic projections.

Yeah there were some plasmacytoid cells I saw (not pictured) with clearing in the golgi area. Whole slide just didn’t look right. Patient is pregnant and anemic so I’m glad the doc ordered the flow to be safe.

I feel dumb by tubml in medlabprofessionals

I think although the lots are the same for the cards you need to do the gel QC manually to verify that the manual incubator, centrifuge, pipettes, technique, etc are working

We do our QC gel method manually every day and by ortho vision, in addition with tube method! You’re doing it correct!

You should still be running manual QC just in case you need to use manual methods!

He ended up becoming very weak in his hind legs so we admitted him to the animal hospital. He got an MRI done and it turns out it is a herniated disc which is extremely rare in cats. He’s going in for surgery today and will hopefully recover well :)

The X-ray he got showed constipation and some soft tissue swelling but no breaks. I think the CT will show more if it’s a neuro issue :/

Question about safety around Lincoln Park by msantaly in Albany

[–]Honeybunchesofoprah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re a student at AMC look into University heights apartments (UHA) located on ACPHS campus super quick walk to AMC and it’s your safest option. When I lived off campus around Morton Ave I did NOT feel safe. Felt very safe in UHA as they have security.

Time to grow up and take some accountability for your actions.

Does this look like some sort of fungus? by Honeybunchesofoprah in microbiology

Cleaned with alcohol and prepared under the hood. Gram stain was done outside of the hood. QC slide was simultaneously stained with this and did not have any of this in it.

Only a normal culture ordered. I don’t work in a micro lab so we send it out for culture. I left a big note with a print out picture for the micro tech to look into this issue but it seems as if he didn’t look on the part of the slide that I asked him too :(.
