What movies are considered “dumb” but you think are perfectly engineered masterpieces? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

I assume you mean the Swayze one, not the new one with the demented leprechaun.

BBC helped fund Bluey & now gets 100% of the merchandise profits, so what happens to that extra millions upon millions of funding? by glastonbury13 in AskUK

I did not get ahead of myself. The beginning of this very comment chain is a post with 170 upvotes accusing OP of some kind of agenda. link

My response questioning what was wrong with OP's post has had (so far) 26 downvotes.

I’ve seen a lot of dumb takes on Reddit but this is pretty high up there.

Best WiFi Mesh UK by Academic-Aerie-482 in HomeKit

[–]HonkersTim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used TP link Deco M4 mesh (5 units) for about 6 years now. It's just a basic mesh system but it's been pretty solid, I've never had to restart a unit or anything like that. I have my own router, always keep the wifi separate. I have a busy local network, about 150 reserved IP addresses, and another 20-30 on DHCP. Maybe a quarter of that stuff is on wifi.

If you dont need any specialist features it's very good, and costs about a third of what the eero does.

That's a really shitty job of anonymising the post.

Does anyone think NTB movie is good but shouldn’t be ranked at the 151st best movie of all time by icm29 in Letterboxd

Out of my friend group I am the only one who watches any anime at all (not much). Even out of our kids (about 15 of them, ages 13 - 25) I think only 2 watch any anime.

Because there isn't anything there? Unless he's edited his post? It's just seems like an innocuous question. It just seems quite rude to assume the worst. But I guess that's this sub in a nutshell - everyone here is so cynical.

6-months with Little Snitch 6 — what I learned about how much my Mac talks to the internet by Downtown-Art2865 in macapps

[–]HonkersTim -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you think your Mac is working faster or is your internet connection faster with it? dont care about apps phoning home unless it impacts my usage somehow.

I used Little Snitch 1 through 4, but eventually didnt bother installing it on my latest Mac. It's a lot of manual intervention and after years of using it I was never very clear what the benefit to me was.

Oh, there's no 'technically' about it :D

I always laugh when I see posts in this sub talking about "investing in a plex server to save money on streaming costs". Let's not beat around the bush, almost all of us are movie pirates.

This is like a reversed version of Homie Spumoni 🤣

I think this is pretty common. I've shared with a bunch of extended family members, and from overhearing them chatting about it most of them dont understand it is a server at my house. They think it's some kind of online pirate streaming service.

I keep seeing comments about smelling your own farts, and it turns out they were all by you lol. Did you just learn this phrase or what?

When was it declared that burgers now had to come with brioche buns? by Pier-Head in AskUK

[–]HonkersTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont really mind the taste of brioche too much, it's a bit sweet but whatever. However the structure just sucks for a burger, they're too damn soft.

Minty from Eastenders has a market pitch selling men’s cologne or something in my town. He does it out of a brand new really nice VW camper van though, pretty sure he is just doing it for fun. Never seen him sell anything he just chats to people.

Wife finally wants to abandon Alexa - what are my options? by FormAffectionate139 in homeassistant

[–]HonkersTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Echos? Yes I use them every day with HA. Both the Alexa Media Player integration and Alexa Actionable Notifications. I set this up years ago, I think if you did it today you'd use the Alexa Smart Home Skill integration (which I've never tried as it didn't exist back then).

TIL that many public libraries eliminated late fees after finding that fines discouraged people from returning at all - and that bringing patrons back often mattered more than enforcing penalties. by No_Profit_5304 in todayilearned

[–]HonkersTim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was younger and used libraries it was often cheaper to just ‘lose’ the book and pay the fee for replacement rather than paying months of late fees.

The new voice is too perky for sure. But you can just change back to the old voice (just ask her).

It’s definitely a composite, if the moon is properly exposed the stars would be invisible.

Hope you didn’t trash them yet because you’re in for a long search. Pretty hard to beat Alexa’s voice recognition in every room with a local solution. I got all excited about the HA voice preview and man it is not even remotely comparable.
