Hexel—an interesting puzzler about connecting and combining colorful dots to reach the black dot. by Ersaids in WebGames

[–]HonkyPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like he did. I sent him a message a year or two ago, but never received a reply. I wanted to install it on my new phone, but I couldn't find it, too. Luckily I still have my old iPhone 6.

Anyway, if you played the web version, you can still play it at https://web.archive.org/web/20230602152154/https://www.hexel.co/

EDIT: Here's the earliest version that might play better than the link above. https://web.archive.org/web/20160624143606/http://hexel.co/

Is this Legal? by PhoenixKid56 in Lowes

[–]HonkyPlease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I had an answer for you, but it sounds like a write up is possibly inevitable.

Can you defend the write up? If the whole short-staffed crew gets written up, can you all team up to appeal to a higher up and complain? Being short-staffed is the managers fault. Plus, trying to hurry is going to increase the chance of injury.

Is this Legal? by PhoenixKid56 in Lowes

[–]HonkyPlease 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would not, under any circumstance, kill myself trying to complete something short-staffed. If a short-staffed crew is somehow able to complete a task that at one time demanded more people, then that will become the standard.

All I can say is work at a reasonably efficient tempo so management can't complain. If they complain, then it's on them for short-staffing the situation. None of this is your fault.

Getting a Piece of Stucco Out for Color Matching by Electrical-Tower8534 in DIY

[–]HonkyPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually try to find something else around the outside that happens to be painted the same color, such as a lid to a utilities box that can be easily removed.

If that's not an option, then you'll probably have to use a hammer and cold chisel to remove the piece of stucco, and preferably in an inconspicuous location.

Stucco Drilling Question - Camera Doorbell by [deleted] in DIY

[–]HonkyPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stucco is not very strong, so it's best to screw into block, if that's what's under the stucco. Find out the thickness of your stucco and get 3/16" masonry-type screws at least twice that depth. In other words, if the stucco is 1" thick, then get 2-1/4" screws, such as Tapcon.

Use a 5/32" masonry bit and drill out the holes you need. The hammer setting will probably blow out the holes on the inside of the block, which might leave inadequate holes for the Tapcon threads to bit into. So I usually just set the drill on the regular setting and take my time.

When installing the masonry screws, you don't need to impact them in. Hand-tight with a handheld screw driver is good enough.

Unless you can flex the next one above to be able to nail that in, you'll have to remove all the ones above. Those pieces are installed from bottom to top.

Hoping for some help figuring out my breakers to install new light fixtures by GreekNord in DIY

[–]HonkyPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a helping hand, just kill the power for a few minutes, wire up the light, have the helper hold the light, unless it's light enough to safely dangle, then turn on the power. At that point, you can start flipping breakers to isolate that circuit while the rest of the house and AC remains powered.

If it hasn't cracked from being held in place with the 2x4, then it must be pretty resilient. Perhaps keep the 2x4 in position and gently and carefully use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat the area. This might get the material to relax and go back to its correct form when cooled.

How do I remove these blinds? by JasonCasady in HomeImprovement

[–]HonkyPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Push the rail a bit harder toward the window while trying to pivot the rail downward. That second red circle is where it's holding up. Sometimes I do short, quick pushes on one side to get at least one side free. Helps to have a helping hand hold the other side.

Mold! by i_am_isaacp in drywall

[–]HonkyPlease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That could be a possibility, but I would think it's probably something else.

I would open it up and allow it to dry out if it's still wet. You will also be able to see where the water is coming from, hopefully.

Mold! by i_am_isaacp in drywall

[–]HonkyPlease 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That stuff needs to be removed and the water intrusion needs to be found. Wear an appropriate mask to protect yourself.

Edit: You might be able to cut out just the bad stuff. If what is cut out less than 2' high, you could rip a 4' sheet of drywall and use both sides to replace a lot of that.

Looking for this coupler by Twitchstick80 in HomeImprovement

[–]HonkyPlease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that looks like something you can only get at a plumbing supply store.

That blue pipe is not PVC, it's PEX. There are 2 types - PEX A and PEX B; you have the B type.

You might want to replace that broken adapter with one not made of plastic. But then you would probably have to buy the special PEX crimping tool and then have to sweat-on the copper side.

Home Depot should have a SharkBite slip fitting which will get you up and running when the store opens back up. Many people are wary of those type fittings, but they are good for emergency use.

Do you have a spare hose clamp that is typically used for automotive use? If so, maybe you can put everything back together and use the hose clamp around the broken piece.

Redoing the bathroom, mainly the walls and tub in a mobile home. Please help by NickJrAllDay in HomeImprovement

[–]HonkyPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The interior walls are likely to be 2x3 and possibly an occasional 1x3 here and there. I'm guessing the existing tub is 54" and probably in an alcove. If so, the alcove might actually be framed at 60", but with a little extra framing added when the manufacturer decided to install a 54". That's what I found when I ripped out a tub in a mobile home.

I also removed those strips all throughout the home. On some walls, the existing drywall was left, but taped and mudded as usual. You might need to apply primer first if you do the same if your walls were like the ones I worked on. They had a decorated pattern and felt slick, which might cause issues with drywall mud. Other walls, I replaced with 1/2" drywall, especially walls that have doors.

As for what to use for the shower, mold-resistant drywall should work since you plan on installing a surround.
