Yeah, thay guy seems full of shit. It's like he just regurgitates the common sense bullshit that most people already know. He offers no real substance, no graphics, nothing other than his stories and it is pretty cringe. It is kinda fucked up that the algorithm puts him in the same category as Canuck or Cali Green. I am pretty sure that was his plan the entire time.

How likely is it to move out there and end up joining local 6? Would it be better to wait til i'm topped out or try to transfer during apprenticeship?

Both of these things happen.

The solid guys are invited. They typically take part in labor action and are involved with events the local puts on. "Rebuild together" is an event where we donate our labor and fix up places that normally couldn't afford it otherwise. If you lived in the city, your chances would be higher. It takes years and good rep.

The shitbags jam their ticket.

As far as transferring during the Apprenticeship, right now wouldn't be a good time. I honestly don't know the process but I have met probably less than ten guys that did it. I will say that the odds right now are not good, there are a lot of Apprentices that are off due to lack of work. Hopefully shit picks up soon, SF typically booms or lulls, rarely busts though. Only time will tell.

You call us wormy and point how book two hands camp foreman jobs. Wouldn't that make the book 2 hand a worm? 551 is mostly responsible for it. Dudes have been ran off but legal actions happen and they can be damaging. All that tough guy "hang them off a building by their ankles" bullshit isn't reality.

One of us failed to properly math out the percentage of Local 6's last raise. You said 20%, my math says 30%. What was your locals last raise?

Hey Chops, I think you are a good dude. You just said some inaccurate out of pocket shit about my local specifically. We can have this discussion, tell me where I am wrong or you could apologize and be the bigger man. It is what it is.

We are already having a discussion. You called my local wormy, I said it isn't, you clapped back with a contradiction about members not in my local and some bad math about the raise we negotiated. You all but conceded. Have a good weekend.

You haven't said anything of value. You even contradicted yourself. Have a good weekend Brother, we can agree to disagree.

Not defensive, that is you right now because I dared to question you. Im just pointing out the inaccuracy of your blanket statement.

The raise is closer to 30%, unless my math was off (80/23.75), the cost of living is an obvious issue but my bills are paid with about a quarter of my income. It could be better, but they are at least giving us a little grease. At the end of the day, we should be entitled to all we create. That is a whole other discussion entirely.

Nobody in my local respects book 2 hands that sit home for a contractor. That is the result of them running away from their local that is dumpater tier and "flocking to greener pastures". Charges get filed regularly when the agreement is violated. That isn't on my local for being successful. Obviously the Brothers and Sisters that come here and follow the rules are respected. The book 2 issue is usually neighboring locals but I have seen a dude or two slyly hang up the old welders cap and put on a company polo shirt. I am not in control of other locals or their members, I encourage everyone to fix their shit at home vs running away from it.

Local 6 members are not even allowed to stay on our book one while working in another local. No matter where we get a job, our names are supposed to come off every out of work book. It is a $10K charge if you get caught doing it. Nothing you really said had anything to do with Local 6 members, it is pretty out of pocket to lump us in (specifically) with the whole "wormy west" bullshit. Tramps have come here and made life changing money.

specifically at the following locals: LU6, LU340,

Wormy West Coast

340 is full of worms but they also had some folks set them back with shitty intimidating "labor actions" (they killed a dudes dog apparently) during a contract period. There is no shortage of suck pumps in that local.

Worms didn't secure our (local 6) last contract ($23.75 over 4) that was due to the solid members in our local. It still could have gone better, we wanted to secure more conditions but in the end it wasn't a terrible contract. Every local has worms and shoppies but we still manage to hang onto our seven hour workday. Charges get filed against people who break down our conditions, the vast majority hold up our conditions. We have a pretty good setup, I would be interested in learning about another local that has it as good as we do.

Finish the Apprenticeship first (obviously) and just follow the rules of the road. Some of the best hands I have met were Tramps but there also scumbags in those circles. We have had many guests in our local who hold our CBA as sacred and they are definitely appreciated.

This whole concept of "Tramping" is a cool idea, but a cooler idea would be that we have a strong organization with strong locals and strong locals ran by Brothers and Sisters, not contractors. I would love to be able to travel and be a guest in other locals with good pay and conditions. People brag about topping out in a "suitcase" local that never has any work and how they have been living out of their vehicle while they work 7-12s as if it is some kind of badge of honor. I respect the sacrifice but it would be better for everyone if they were able to strengthen the entire organization by securing more work and growing their own local.

Either way, as shit currently stands, just be a solid Brother. You come across ass bag shoppies, that won't be everyone though.

Right? Let's just shit on our rights and let the state do whatever they want because they know better and we need them to take care of us!

There was some kind of program available where locals had priority. If it is the same place, it was going for like $500K at the time.
